The parents likely knew where he was and were hoping that he was living in the reserve. However after so many weeks of him missing they probably thought the worst and decided to personally trek out to the reserve so they could participate in the search and hopefully find him alive.
It appears he was indeed where he claimed he would be, but sadly for his parents he likely killed himself there. They probably knew that if he were alive, then the FBI would have found him by now. After five weeks had passed they came to the conclusion that he likely was deceased and this morning went out to the Carlton Reserve to prove their suspicions correct.

Y’all are awful. They had been directing the cops to this area since September 17. It was underwater though. Chris was literally not allowed to go to the area and help search because up until yesterday it was shut down to the public. They were told they couldn’t join. Cops let Chris join a couple times and both times he brought them to this same exact area- just didn’t find them those times. It’s not a coincidence. It’s literally just the first time he was able to freely go search on his own.

I don't understand why LE couldn't find these items as quickly as the Laundries did. The location was not far from where the car was parked. They had the swamp buggies, divers and cadaver dogs. If that white bag is a dry bag, it should have been floating in the water.

It looks like very thick underbrush. Imagine that, but submerged. Not easy to search or see objects under muddy water, mixed in with plants and other debris.

No it's not. They have all the answers they need. They know how she died and who did it. If Brian is actually dead, they can rest knowing he won't do it to someone else's daughter. That is true closure.

Maybe since the parents said they and BL had frequented that area of the reserve before, they knew from prior experience that their were old human remains there and so they planted Brian’s sketch book there to make it look like he was there and that the body is him

Lol BL’s “ drawings” are basically pre- adolescent garbage and of no value ( not like he put a computer or camera in the wet bag like most people ) A dry bag for a doodle pad ??? Lol . Most likely this was the parents trying to preserve the concocted “ evidence “ that their son died in the preserve so that LE will stop looking for him

Also only possible reason I can think of for these parents to be going about mowing their lawn and tending their garden as if their son weren’t rotting in a swamp a few miles away - cause he wasn’t

While hiring a lawyer + deciding against speaking publicly is their fundamental right - morally they should have responded to Gabby’s parents and let them know what they knew.

By doing this, they only made themselves look bad.

Of course it made them look bad, but it was the smart thing to do. It’s 100% what I would have advised my clients to do as well. we don’t know what Brian told them. He may have told them absolutely nothing. Remember, her body wasn’t even found until after Brian left. They may have had zero clue that was something wrong. Brian left only two days after she was announced missing- that could have been a complete shock to the parents who could have led to him feeing a need to flee. He could have played her disappearance off as something he has no idea about. We simply don’t know what they knew or thought.

But they could have had the decency to respond to Gabby’s family when they called looking for her. Stone cold silence is not the way to react.

We don’t know what their relationship was like with the Petito family, or how they were being approached. As long as we’re assuming that the Laundries were stone cold, why not assume that the Petitos were threatening them? We don’t know enough about any of this to pass well informed judgment.

It has been noted that the reserve had been closed for an entire month & had just recently re-opened when Brian’s parents visited it.

So what likely occurred is that Brian actually did in fact go hiking in the area where his parents told authorities he went.
Then due to the high water level in the area - searchers did not find his body while embarking on the multi-million search this past month.
After the reserve re-opened > it makes complete sense that Brian’s folks would return to the area where they believed their son to be at + since the water level had receded, Brian’s stuff and possibly his remains were discovered.

Which would mean that his parents as well as his older sister Cassie were telling the truth that they did not know Brian’s whereabouts nor had spoken directly with him.
However due to the parents electing to remain silent throughout this entire ordeal, they will always be publicly vilified which is only of their own doing.

Well, they DID raise a monster. Whether it’s their fault or not who knows. But if they had been less shady and obstructive from the beginning, people would be more inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt now. They went on a freaking camping vacation while their beloved DIL was missing. They refused to answer calls or texts from her frantic parents, who for a time thought Brian was missing too. These facts are not in dispute.
