Biden's VP?

Anonymous
A Black?" Egads, Biden is not under pressure from POC of color to pick a woman of color - he seems to be under some pressure from young white millennials (who NOT AAs, actually cost us the election in 2016) on the left flank - but AAs could give zero effs if he picks Harris or Bass or whomever - they just want to win and get Trump who is killing them out of office. Appointing an AA on SCOTUS or AG would be far more consequential than VEEP. Heck, assuming Biden cannot last two terms, we will likely have an AA governor from whom to pick in 2024.

Agree with every point of this.

Biden completely owes where he is at to Jim Clyburn and African Americans who dragged his sorry -ss from oblivion to across the finish line. What makes the likes of Duckworth, Warren, Whitmer more qualified then a number of black women? If Biden thinks he can risk some black voters staying home and some casting protest votes for Kanye and turns his back on those who brought him this far, he deserves to lose.

He owes the country a win. That is what it comes down to and he has to look at every vote he can get. The media has sidelined white female candidates. He needs to look at each person and decide who will give him the strongest chance to win.

What ever happened to Demming? She's not mentioned any more. She's moderate and could work on LE reform. I don't care who he selects. This time I'd even vote for Sarah Palin for Veep. Any one not Trump or Pence.

Or javanka or anyone connected to them.

I have a feeling it is going to be Whitmer. There was so much buzz about Bass, Harris, and Rice for the past few days/weeks, all coming from leaks and comments from people on the Biden team and close to him. All of a sudden, it is reported that Whitmer is back on the shortlist. The previous stories on the other contenders could just be distractions.

Aside from lack of foreign policy experience, what are her downsides? She has handled herself well with regards to corona and those protestors and seems like a good looking, charming, family friendly politician.

The fact that she did pop back up out of nowhere is pretty interesting

+1 She polls well in swing states and, as the article pp cited says, he just likes her.

But AA voters, when polled, say race should not be a factor in selecting a VP. Besides Harris, I don’t that anyone can seriously argue that Duckworth, Warren, Whitmer are not more qualified than Bass, Abrams, Bottoms, or Demings. I would be happy with Harris - but Harris continually gets the crabs-in-the-barrel not Black enough BS edit from many in the AA community (which speaks of the sexism in this county - Obama certainly never got this garbage). If not, Harris, Whitmer would be an excellent choice and could help in the Midwest, including in the AA community. Her lieutenant governor who would take over from her is a beloved and talent AA politician with a bright future.

She won’t energize Black people to vote, can be seen as polarizing (liberate Michigan was not handled well), she was born with golden political spoon and nearly handed her political career on a platter, her DH is a problem, she is green and no personal history with Biden. She is not in the same league as Warren, Rice or Duckworth.

Let’s see what the next few days brings for Whitmer.

The Obamas are out there because DJT is a fool. The Bushes are 'out there' too. Maybe Laura will run?

Has the Bush family endorsed Biden?

If she were to be selected, Michigan would have a black governor (and the only black governor in the union)
