Biden's VP?

Yes, if he picks a white VP I think he'll basically have to present his cabinet wish list as well, which could well include Harris for AG, Rice for Sec of State, and possibly Lance Bottoms and Abrams in other positions. He'll have to reiterate his commitment to an AA woman Supreme Court justice nominee as well. I'm confident his cabinet will be powerful and diverse, even if he decides to go with Warren or Whitmer for VP. In short, black women will make strides in his administration, even if not as VP this time. But we'll see, too soon to tell. Even though I've been a long-time Warren supporter, I keep coming back to Whitmer as someone who is just plain likable and seems to be a talented retail politician with good crossover appeal. I'll wait to see what the next two months hold.

Harris turned down AG under Obama...why do you think she would want it now. Unless she is VP, I would assume perhaps SCOTUS.

Warren won't leave the senate as her replacement would be chosen by a GOP governor.

From a May 11 NYT article on Harris:
"Among Ms. Harris’s backers, because there is no uniform effort to pitch her to Mr. Biden, there is also no consensus opinion that being the running mate is the role she most desires. After three years in the Senate, Ms. Harris has been frustrated by the bureaucracy of Washington, and has mused to allies about missing the control afforded to her in executive positions such as attorney general of California and as district attorney of San Francisco.

In one conversation, with a political figure who requested anonymity to discuss a candid conversation, Ms. Harris said she would consider the role of attorney general in Mr. Biden’s administration if she was not selected as vice president."

She would be ready from day 1. Assuming she has a solid backbone for firm decisions?

Aside from lack of foreign policy experience, what are her downsides? She has handled herself well with regards to corona and those protestors and seems like a good looking, charming, family friendly politician.

She won’t energize Black people to vote, can be seen as polarizing (liberate Michigan was not handled well), she was born with golden political spoon and nearly handed her political career on a platter, her DH is a problem, she is green and no personal history with Biden. She is not in the same league as Warren, Rice or Duckworth.

Don't think this will be an issue against a billionaire trust fund baby. Unfortunately, silver spoons are generally a given in politics

Garlin Gilchrist. A 37-year old from the Detroit metro. I just read up on his bio and it is pretty interesting. His resume includes engineer at Microsoft, Campaign director at Moveon.org and Community Change, Chief Information Officer of the City of Detroit, and a researcher at UMich.

It is an issue if your trying to attract the votes of women who don’t have any more than a high school degree which is a vast number of swing voters. Sadly, men get a pass on this issue but no one helped these voters and they will resent her free ride.

Does this really indicate something? Maybe she just wants to get out of the market?

Pelosi said she would only be speaker for two years. I can definitely see Bass taking over the speakership in 2022.

Another option would be filling in Kamala's spot in the Senate. She has good relationships throughout CA so I could definitely see a big push to get Newsom to select her for the seat.

Hard to know where to start - none of this is actually true - very high approval rating, not “to the manor borne,” worked very hard for her career and was not handed anything (while nursing her baby and dying single mother), she’s very popular in the AA community, and her husband is not the brightest bulb, but it’s nothing he paid a hooker with a personal check like Stabenow’s husband or anything...

Thank you. Reading now and that is an impressive checklist at such a young age. He seems solidly committed to impacting social and racial injustice. He has a nice smile too. I have a love hate relationship with SharePoint, but I won’t blame him for that at all.

I actually went to college with Garlin. He is brilliant and insanely tall. Garlin Gilchrist is a name we will be hearing a lot in the next couple years (and rightfully so!)

Bass is on track to move up in the House leadership, rumored to be in the mix for Speaker when Pelosi retires. Could potentially be more powerful than VP. So all of this exposure helps her either way.

That’s great. It is 100% clear to me that Biden has solid options. I trust his judgment. The more I understand potential risks, the more confidence I have in *him* — and his ability to build the A-team needed for this time. I hope he has all of the information and support that he needs to make the best decision for the country. There is a ton of work we have to do. I’m very hopeful for turning a page from this detrimental admin’s history and beginning a new chapter.

She is not getting Senate confirmation for anything if Republicans remain in control...the Scientology and Communism problems were not handled well.
