considering the uk back home has a crisis in developing talent, not sure how uk elite can do a good job

This thread is on page 213. Different topics have been discussed. In general the craziness on this thread is impressive. My kids are adults and all played youth soccer in the area. Jesus I could write a book. I have so many regrets about being immersed in the soccer scene. But there were definitely good points. Playing for your HS is really fun. At the really good schools, the only way to have a chance to make/play on the team is to have gone through the training in travel soccer. So it is tough.
My question: are other sports like this? So much crazy? My family had a rude awakening at McLean Soccer, starting very young. Moving clubs worked for my family. But there is still this culture of nuttiness and drama everywhere in soccer. We found the place with the least nuttiness and most good training that worked for OUR family. But it takes time, money, and patience. Different clubs work for different families. Is lacrosse like this? Baseball/softball? Field hockey? PS: My kids play college soccer now. Soccer has aged us all.... |
he risks ruining his potential going to uva. At his size, college soccer is completely the wrong move. It is even more mindblowing considering he qualifies as an EU national (which is a hang up for a lot of good kids to move to a european club - without a croatian passport, pulisic doesn't get picked up by dortmund from pa classics). There was rumors he came back home due to home sickness after training with a couple of english clubs. That's very unfortunate to hear if true. At the most he can only spend one, maybe two years at uva if he wants to fulfill his full potential. |
The US has issues with developing talent, too. Does that mean no people from the US are capable coaches or trainers? |
Baseball is not as crazy IMO but it has become close - elite travel ball/college showcase ball is really how you are going to get picked up. Basketball is definitely like this via AAU. The nuttiness and drama in youth soccer stems from us youth soccer reflecting its cultural/ses demographic - the nuttiness and drama of mc/umc strivers and money. My sibling has observed and done projects from primavera levels for a couple serie a clubs and a portuguese club. The european system certainly has its faults and doesn't map well with the psyche of the american child, but as a coach myself I am so jealous of the trainers abroad esp wrt dealing with parents that have too much money but have no sense. Also look at the beef between mls/ussf and clubs like crossfire (yedlin's acadmy in seattle - disclosure, I worked at crossfire for a bit at a different level), texans, and sockers wrt solidarity payments that fifa mandates but us soccer refuses to comply with. What were your issues with Mclean soccer? |
the capable trainers/population ratio is much too small here. There are good trainers in the US though. |
I didn't say it was the same as having a DA. I said this is the information the person above is referring to. But thanks for being a total DB in your retort. No, I'm not wrong. The info I posted is true/factual. |
I hear that travel hockey culture is far crazier than soccer culture. From what I have seen (my child is 10), McLean has not changed much from your time! What are your regrets exactly? What would you do differently today? Also, what club did you end up at that you were happy with? |
The OP claimed "every CCL club" except for McLean was awarded the DA. I asked what CCL Clubs actually were awarded the DA. You then provided a link to the Spirit affiliations. This was true but you failed to discern the difference between an "affiliation" and be awarded full DA. If the OP actually understood the difference they probably would not have gone off half cocked about McLean failing in some way as compared to other CCL clubs when it simply isn't true. But why should facts get in the way of someone hell bent on running a club down. |
This showed to be the best way to take down a troll. |
Maybe this kid just wants a good quality education he doesn't have to pay for. Maybe he realizes he doesn't have a future Internationally and realizes the limitations of the MLS. Get that degree/education. Smart move for him. I agree with the comments about size in college soccer---US style is purely physical. It would be hard. |
Wow--where did you pull that quote from? If you are new to this thread and just read through all 213 pages, I salute you! |
Hey, some civil conversation. Thank you. A relief after that anonymous DB troll-hunter has gone back into his hole where he can quote out of context to support his beloved local club. |
Thanks, right on time. Too bad my kid's schedule is a nuclear tire fire. Four-hour round-trip to cross half the next state for a mere regular season game. I must have been a spam e-mail chieftain in a prior life. Actually I'm too old for that. But damn, NCSL schedulers. Damn. |
