Besides Warren, she is the only one capable day one.

No, Whitmer is capable from day one. Raimondo is capable from day one.

Please explain their extensive foreign policy experience? None is the answer and Russia/North Korea/China/Iran will pounce

Yikes. So ignorant. Michigan's largest trading partner is Canada - and they do tons of joint initiatives on terrorism and crime, etc. She has as much experience as Obama had when he ran - and she would surround herself with other smart people unlike the current Borgia-esque regime.

She can see Canada from her house.

Supposedly Whitmer has remained a top-tier prospect all along. There is a lot of contradictory reporting. No one really knows exactly who is the mix and their standing, except for a select few who are not speaking publicly about it.

Good.

Another report saying it's between Harris, Rice, Bass, and Whitmer, with Warren as a dark horse. Reservations about Harris, hence the delay.

I don’t think Rice is worth the risk- too much of a lightening rod. WTH wants to have to talk about goddamn Benghazi again?!

Good.

Agree. She is good for swing voters from the swing states. She can deal with the health and economic crisis in our country. Joe has foreign experience and he can fill his cabinet with people who have specific experience where needed. This is a safer route to a win.

Anyone else find it really odd Tammy D is not on this list? I wonder if it's accurate.

It seems a bit foolish to compare the experience of Rice with Whitmer. I think they are on completely different tiers.

Rice played an integral role in quashing Ebola. She won’t need months of briefing to get up to speed on foreign policy. She probably has some of our closest allies on speed dial.

"Quashing Ebola?" A rare hemorrhagic fever that is incredibly hard to contract and we had all of 4 confirmed cases. The story would have been if we DIDN'T quash Ebola.

Again, and I will say it as many times as I have to, Susan Rice has never been elected to office, any office. She is, as Tom Nichols, put it, "legendarily abrasive." And she is another Obama Administration veteran with a hugely controversial record. She should not be on the short list. I am not convinced she could get confirmed as SecState.

She is some inner circle Democrat dream that will turn out to be a nightmare.

Well, on everyone except Rice, who is politically toxic. So what's the best choice of his remaining options?

I disagree that Rice is politically toxic.

You are wrong.

I agree with this, not to mention she is the least relatable to Black voters on the shortlist (including Warren and Whitmer, I would argue). She's toxic to Republicans, of course, but also progressives. And I agree she's not a shoe-in for Sec State confirmation either.

on paper Whitmer helps win Michigan, but Biden is under tremendous pressure to select a Black right now

No way she's not on the list. All of the reporting is speculative.

Ebola was highly contagious and she helped spearhead the international efforts to help the countries in West Africa. She also helped draft the pandemic playbook. And if you are relying on Tom Nichols who self describes himself as a conservative and tweets reek of sexism is laughable. He also admits she is qualified. I think I will take the views of those she actually worked with who have praised her like Valerie Jarrett.
