Anonymous wrote:Funny how 2017 - 2019 is a big mystery to FCV parents. Here is a recap.

Loudoun was always strong U9-U12 but lacked a top platform for U13-U19. Until two years ago the only option was ECNL. So top Loudoun players would leave for ECNL teams. Primarily FCV given the close location. So every spring the FCV tryouts would be packed with Loudoun players looking for a chance to join the club. This happened last year as well since FCV held 6 DA ID sessions before March 1 last year. Loudoun did not even announce they made ECNL until March so by then the girls had moved on. DA had great promise a year ago and ECNL was an unknown.

This year FCV held ID Sessions but few outsiders showed up. By few we are talking a handful of players. ECNL clearly has a major impact on keeping the talent going forward. So each year Loudoun ECNL will get stronger starting with the 2007s. Given that Loudoun is better than FCV at the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 age groups it is pretty clear that Loudoun is only going to get better while FCV tries their best to recruit anyone they can get to show up.

But surely the size and quality of the club would be enough to have more than one winning team out of 12 teams, no?

Even CCL teams went to crap. Now, I know they are formerly Loudoun Black teams but one would have hoped that Loudoun could do better developing than having one team with a winning record in CCL?

So lets do a deeper dive on the girls side.

CCL II.
Loudoun has 6 teams form U13-U19. 3 teams with a winning record.

NCSL
Loudoun has 6 teams same ages. One team in D2 has a winning record. Loudoun has two teams in NCSL D1, 2 in D2, 1 team in D3 and 1 team in D4.

So Loudoun has a total of 24 teams across 4 leagues and 5 teams have winning records.

The answer is no. Not against other ECNL clubs that have had ECNL for years and were able to keep their pipelines intact. The Loudoun ECNL record makes sense. If you want to watch the best Loudoun players of years past look to FCV. The best FCV DA U-15 player, the 2005 play up with a team leading 13 goals in 19 games? She was wearing Loudoun Red jersey just two years ago.

I totally understand what you are trying to do with disparaging Loudoun. It's a good try. But Loudoun ECNL has completely cut off the FCV pipeline. Sorry.

BRYC has been in ECNL just one more year than Loudoun and they have teams in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in their division. These are the 3 oldest teams too. Did BRYC not lose players to McLean and FCV in the past? How did such a small CCL club surrounded by McLean, FCV and Loudoun manage to do so well in just their second year of ECNL? How were they able to keep players all those years all the while being surrounded by better league options while Loudoun, playing in the same league as BRYC acts like a pipeline? What does Loudoun do to push kids out of the club?

Did BRYC used to be a pipeline for another club? Did they have a partnership with another DA/ECNL club to act as a feeder like Loudoun had with FCV? I don't think so.

You mean the Loudoun/FCV partnership that managed to make it through one ID season? Umm OK...

When Loudoun got ECNL there were several FCV kids that moved over to Loudoun. Why didn't former Loudoun kids do the same?

So ECNL was NEVER a draw for BRYC kids? McLean and FCV were never options?

Welcome to Northern VA traffic. Unfortunately that's why we have as many DA/ECNL teams as So Cal.

Sure but what if you live in Vienna, Annandale or Falls Church? One could reasonable do either club.

But again, how can clubs so much smaller than Loudoun still do so much better at older ages?

Loudoun has about 432 girls on 24 teams from U13-U19. That is as many teams as FCV and BRYC have combined. You are telling me that out of 432 kids that Loudoun can't put more than 5 winning teams together because they lost an 05 to FCV?

Loudoun has probably lost about 12 kids over the last two years to FCV. What the hell was Loudoun doing with the other 400 kids all these years?

Yeah, what was Lodon doing with those 400 kids!

Decent point but BRYC did benefit from a mass influx of players from outside of bryc in some of those older teams. PWSI used to be a feeder and had now established itself in a year. Loudeen needs to fix some major issues clearly.

Yep you nailed it. So insightful. Go ahead and setup some more ID Sessions for FCB and BYRC. Those 432 girls will all sign up. Good luck.

Those kids haven't been developed to even go anywhere, that is the point.

Losing lots of games when they go to 11v11.

Maybe but we have never lost a single game to either club. Not worried.

Every Loudoun Red team is ranked #1 up till U13. That is when the clock always strikes midnight on Loudoun.

19 losing teams out of 24. SMH

The 07 team has one thing going for it. As a team it has won more games than the entirety of Loudoun's girls teams from U13 to U19.

Such pedigree, such heritage. Yup ECNL better never let Loudoun Soccer Club go! LOL

I think the bigger issue is that ECNL would have to get Loudoun, VDA, BRYC, and Mclean permission to add another team in their territories. Will those clubs defer and allow another team in? My guess is no.

FCV Parents -

Thank you for paying for the fields for your 6 ID sessions. We will try to recruit some Rec and Challenge teams to your next session so that your TD is not too embarrassed to tweet out the empty session.

Right and VDA, McLean and BRYC are not going to vote against a easy layup win against Loudoun for a actual competitive game against FCV.

Exactly when will the clock strike midnight for the 07s? It's March 27th. You better setup some more ID sessions...LOL

Why wouldn't those clubs defer? They should want to prove their the best at development and coaching, not just recruiting.
