This Is Us -- Season 2

How was it that William was living somewhere close to NJ when Randall found him? Did they ever explain why he wasn't still in Pittsburgh?

He lived in Philly I think.

Kate and BF too mushy

Kevin a total ass as usual

Looking forward to the more detailed profiles of the kids coming up in the next 3 episodes

It seems like no one ever challenged Kevin to be more than the good looking class clown. I'm not talking about achievement or academics, it seems like no one expected him to ever be deep or have strong feelings or care about anything that wasn't directly effecting him.

THIS!

his was the first "it's not you, it's me" speech that is actually true. that girlfriend of his better never let him back in again.

I hated the way he told Sophie that when he envisions their future together, it's "a nightmare." From his dream sequences, we can see that it would be a nightmare because of him, but he doesn't elaborate on that to Sophie. What a harsh thing for her to hear, especially not knowing the context in which he intended it.

I love how they're portraying addiction in this country (Jack, William, and now Kevin). Similarly, like how they mirrored the judge/courthouse/jail scenarios between Deja's mom, William, and the Pearsons trying to adopt Randall. Just nice overall symmetry in this episode.

How is no one noticing Kevin's issues? I hope someone picks up on it soon. He looks like a hot mess in every scene now.

That brief scene when the two judges were chatting in the lounge, unaware that they were both having an impact on Randall and his families at the same moment in time, gave me shivers. I think those arcs of coincidence may happen more in life than we realize.

Every time I get a little fed up with this show, it keeps reeling me back in, mainly due to scenes like that. It's always the unexpected coincidence that I'm never prepared for. Also, the judge's speech to young William. Wow.

I still think Mandy Moore is doing fantastic with the role of Rebecca. She is such a believable actress!

I wonder if it will be Rebecca who first realizes that Kevin is addicted. She saw it with Jack and she also saw it (very briefly) with young William. I think Sophie suspects since she told him he was spiraling in that last conversation.

It is kind of bizarre how oblivious everyone seems to Kevin's issues. Kate asks "Does Kevin seem off to you?" and then she and Toby shrug it off. They're twins! Previously they could read each other's minds . . .

I can't help it, I find Kate's weight distracting. She looks a lot bigger than she did last season. I can't watch her onscreen without thinking about it.

One thing from week before last that seemed really important was the reference to Jack "leaving" - "leaving" and not "dying". It made me wonder, did Jack leave, and then die subsequently? Did he leave & then kill himself? Did he leave & kill himself in the family home which he was burning down for insurance $?

I agree about Kate's weight, though we're probably going to get flamed for saying so. It is distracting. And - I'm just going to say it - the last episode when she slept with the guy from the restaurant, was completely unbelievable. I'm just not buying that at all.

I know I'm in the minority, but I kind of like Toby. He is SO invested in making sure Kate is happy, it's very endearing to me. I do hate the way his mouth is *always* open though.

+1 she looks bigger in every episode.

Agreed, I mean she is playing a mother opposite people her own age in half of the role and its pretty damn believable.

Nah, there is a lid for every pot. Some dudes even sort of fetishize really overweight women, which is creep AF because its just as much making them "not a person" than an asshole who thinks she is "gross" because of her weight. But yes, I buy it, lots of dudes out there with lots of different opinions

Agreed. Moore is actually nearly a decade younger than Brown and Hartley in real life, and 4 years younger than Metz.

We like her in This is Us, but since our kids are of a certain age, Moore will always be Rapunzel to us!

Wasn't the actress who plays Kate supposed to lose weight in her contract? When is this going to happen.
Toby wears a fat suit right? So he can pretty much lose that whenever.
I am happy to see regular looking folks on tv, but she is not just regular looking, she is obese and uncomfortable looking every scene. Not to mention she is painted as a whiny, brat with a bitchy personality who blames everyone else for her own failures in life., not exactly breaking through any stereotypes there.

Not if her character is pregnant.

You're projecting your own negative ideas about fat people onto her. You're not exactly breaking through any stereotypes either.

I like Kate. She's trying, I think. I'm happy for her.

Seriously? You feel put out just by looking at a fat person ON TV? That's your problem, not hers. I can only imagine how you'd act if you encountered and had to interact with an obese person in real life.

Huh?? MM is 33, JH is 40, CH is 37 and SB is 41 so the ages aren't that far off.

People will be surprise about the type of desires that some men have. I have a male friend who specifically seeks out overweight women. When we were in college in left college to start his own dating business for men who love BBW. I told him there was no market for that. He invited me to a social event once and I couldn't believe my eyes. I never saw so many men swooning over overweight women before in my life. I even spoke with some of these men and they made it clear that they were not attractive to skinny women. Some men are really into big women. Kate sleeping with that guy is believable. Men like the guy that Kate slept with don't mind hooking up with overweight women. They're just too afraid to introduce these women to their relatives or friends. I think the writers did a wonderful job with this episode because it brought to light a reality that some people don't want to acknowledge.
