I heard 2pm. |
| Jobs report wouldn't be disclosed because the BLS would be shut down. |
The report scheduled for Oct. 1st is going to be released then BLS will shutdown. |
White House calendar has the meeting at 3 pm. |

The Democrats are in a difficult situation, but there is less incentive to go along than to fight, this time:
If they agree to a Continuing Resolution, without their healthcare demands, the American public suffers from that healthcare decision, and the Democrats are seen as weakened, again. But if they push the nation to a federal shutdown, the White House can choose to fund only those parts of the government that align with their MAGA ideology anyway, so the healthcare demands will be shot either way. The White House could make good on its threat to lay off thousands of additional workers, but it will lead to political blow back for the GOP. Which means that unlike for other shutdown threats, and despite the important government work and services that will grind to a halt, the Democrats might find that a painful shutdown is in their best interest politically, but also in the best long-term interest of the nation, to force the White House to come to the negotiating table after public outcry, and not let the GOP have it all their own way. |
| Less than 35 hours until the Schumer Shutdown starts |
Keep trying to call it this but everyone knows the Republicans control ALL branches of government. They own this shutdown because they refuse to provide anything for Dems to support in the bill. You may be for taking away health insurance from poor rural Americans, since you already said yes to not feeding hungry children, but Dems are not supporting this bill. If you need a couple of their votes, do better! |
Or if they really cared about passing their bill without working across the aisle, they'd abolish the filibuster. |
Let’s face facts. The GOP cannot run the government. Trump’s biggest effort is in enriching himself and family. The GOP are turning a blind eye to his complete moral failure as a human so that they can turn the U.S. into the Heritage Foundation’s dream. |
Poor rural Americans keep voting for the GOP. Might be high time they get what they voted for. |
| The problem is what is the end game? If it does shut down, I don't see which side will compromise in the end? Someone has to at some point. Do Democrats just refuse to vote for the spending bill for a few days or a week to get some attention or is this going to drag on indefinitely? |
Or vice versa. What will the jobs data look like? What will happen to the economy now that the DRP people will be off the federal payroll? Now that tariffs are kicking in? Do Republicans want to destroy the health care industry now, too? What is their end game? Destroy all sectors of the economy? At once? |
so the dems want to make the case to extend the covid era aca temporary subsidies that are supposed to expire after the pandemic? There is no pandemic, what exactly is the logic here? Makes no sense, they should make a better case. As part of COVID-19 relief legislation, the Biden administration temporarily expanded eligibility for ACA health insurance subsidies and increased the financial assistance for people at lower incomes who were already eligible under the ACA. |
Which was a wonderful thing to do, since Americans badly need cheaper healthcare. The government managed to pass that under Covid, but there are very good reasons to make them permanent. I am all for it. I don't see why you'd be against it, PP. So many rural whites cannot afford healthcare. This is why the GOP could never destroy "Obamacare" - their constituents loved it. Instead of pouring billions into ICE throwing out old Indian grandmothers who have paid all their taxes, built a small business, benefited their community and done nothing criminal (happened recently), maybe the government should save American lives by focusing on their health. |
| The largest payroll not getting paid during a shutdown is military pay. Nobody cares if the bureaucrats starve but military families are stuck in the military, they can't quit and get a different job. |
