There is a Post article on this (finally) and nothing in there shows this is remotely justifiable. There is a new security head and he thinks she needs security. That is not persuasive to me as of course a security person would think that. It doesn’t mean it is necessary.
The article mentions threats but the police department statement clearly explains that they review all threats to high profile people in the county (Reid is far from the only one! What about the school board, the county executive, supervisors…) and most of the things sent to Reid were 1st amendment communications. Let the police keep doing their job. We don’t need Reid to take even more taxpayer money for her own personal wants. FCPS is supposed to be about the kids, not the administration. |
If you have any concerns about this use of FCPS money- especially when the system said they didn’t have enough money and cut school-based staff, write your school board member and the three at-large members to tell them. https://www.fcps.edu/about-fcps/leadership/school-board/school-board-members |
And yet Chicago schools that are over twice as big have no personal security. NY, no security. For that reason this seems preemptive measure |
Well just seeing how crazy some of the parents are on this board, it does not surprise me at all. |
I am no expert. However, it seems to me that our Superintendent and School Board are more concerned about themselves than the students.
I would think that hiring four people for round the clock security for our Superintendent is a little obsessive. But, then so is our School Board hiring addition executive staff for each member. Meanwhile, cutting school based staff. Perhaps, the voters should look for people who actually understand that the purpose of our schools is to safely educate our children. |
Where does the FCPS union stand on her new security detail? |
+a million |
Parents who do things like speak out at school board meetings are domestic terrorists and should be treated as such. |
Ha! It's funny because the school board thinks it's true. |
I wish more regular parents would care about this stuff. This thread has so much back and forth between political activists of both sides. I strongly suspect most parents at the bus stop would think these personal security positions for Reid are unreasonable. |
Chiming in as a non-political person who works in a somewhat public industry, I don't find it at all unreasonable. We've had to double our security in the past year because of threats. People are batsh*t crazy, and social media has multiplied it by a ridiculous amount. We pay an outside firm to try and help sort through what's real or not. It's pretty awful. |
I agree with this. Scott Brabrand was Superintendent during Covid and there were a lot of folks unhappy with closed schools, online learning that often tearned out to be "learning" in name only, and their kids' loss of both academic and social skills. People felt strongly about it, enough so to try and recall several School Board members. Even so, Brabrand never treated it as a pretext to demand a full-fledged security detail. Absent a persuasive confirmation of a real threat against Reid that can't be handled through the normal processes, this all feels highly performative and intended to chill parents from vocally opposing decisions by Reid and/or the School Board in the months leading up to the fall elections in Virginia. |
^ "tearned" should be "turned" |
And you think they will help…? |
Dr Reid thinks she is an important person. The truth is that she isn’t. It’s great that she thinks so highly of herself but no one needs her or cares for her. Her decision to close schools during Covid should have sent her packing, instead FCPS have her a promotion and a raise. Now she’s costing us big time. She needs to be gone as she is imposing her own disillusionment on the employees, students, families and tax payers of FFX. |
