Princeton ROTC. Served active in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Gitmo. Bronze star. A political and media creature since then, but still serves in the Guard. At least he can relate to being in the military.

Oh well...if he can relate to being in the military then sign him up. It is the Secretary of defense so being able to relate to being in the military would be such a great quality.

The current one was previously a four star general

I mean doesn't Fox newscaster trump being a general.

Anyway, guess we'll FO!

The reactions from key GOP Senators as well as members of the House Armed Services Committee have been extremely telling.

However, literally as I type this, GOP congressional delegations are meeting to select new leadership. There is no question to me that one reason Trump announced so many of his major appointments last night is that he is leaning heavily on everyone running to replace McConnell to guarantee his appointments are going to get through. But this is the one appointment he's made that I think poses a real problem if they go through a normal Senate confirmation process. Rick Scott is on Armed Services. I guarantee there are some heated conversations being had right now between Trump's team and perhaps Trump himself, and the three senators running for leader (Scott, Cornyn, Thune) about this specific nomination. There will be senators difficult to corral on this one.

This!
Though I do think Trump’s entertainment meter is off. He hasn’t really teased out his announcements and allowed us to truly enjoy all the details. Too bad!
The cabinet meetings will be wild!

Um no. Do you think gay people are inherently unequal because of their sexual preferences.

Pete B. Was the mayor of a city population of 900k people and a municipal budget of 1.6 billion dollars. I think he could handle DOT with a workforce of a little over 56k. It wasn’t Treasury or Defense.

Mayor of South Bend qualified him to run DOT? Do you listen to yourself?

So he nominated a white supremacist to handle all the weapons of mass destruction. The man with the most guns, rule. Dumb Americans. They just elected their oppressor and his followers.

The man who could not attain rank above captain in the regular army is now to lead the entire department. Do you hear yourself

I have no problem with Buttigieg, but it’s a big step from South Bend to US DOT. DOT is 100x the budget and staff of South Bend government. The mayor doesn’t run the entire population of the city, and the DOT serves the population not just the employees.

Are you still going with the campaign trail “waddabout…” to attack and defend everything? Do you understand how profoundly unserious you sound?

I just saw he's been in 20 years and is only a major --- there's some stuff in his file, I guarantee you.

I mean, we could end up with spy balloons flying over the country, disastrous pull-outs from warzones, Russia invading Europe, Iran expanding, and a recruitment crisis.

Best go with another DoD insider.

No, a Fox Entertainmemt reporter is the best choice to deal with these issues.

No there won't be. Mainstream Republicans count on Dem outrage and intransigience to provide cover. But after the electoral shellacking that's not an option. None of them have the guts to do or say anything and the ones that did, besides Murkowski, have all left government. Lisa's not doing anything because she's worried about the Energy nominee and has no leverage because of the Senate results.

I'd say too bad so sad but I know that most Colonels and above didn't vote for him. This is the first FAFO moment I feel sorry about.
