Another snow day!

Parents really felt the need to go to Fox 5 about this? The timing of the announcement was terrible yes, but I don’t see anyone questioning why Loudoun or Anne Arundel counties were closed today. Insufferable.

It’s the law. MCPS is required by the state to have 180 days of school.

So then why is our school always 185 days PLUS the days that can be used for makeups

That's not how it is in MCPS. We now have 182 days each year; prior to that it was 184.

So now we have used all the snow days. Many of the makeup days are problematic:

1/29: So early it would be hard to get approval to use this
3/25: Spring Break
3/26: Spring Break
4/10: Eid Al Fitr
4/22: First night of Passover
6/14: Would push final grading day to 6/17, which means teachers work on Eid Al Adha
6/17: Eid Al Adha
6/18: Very late

I'll believe it when I see it. I'm still betting on a closure after high school students start getting on the busses.

Is this a joke?? They’ll open on time and then everyone will be mad that they didn’t close, so they’ll close on Friday. I don’t see why we can’t just have a delay tomorrow

Yes, I was joking. But I'm confused by your post. Was that a joke? What could possibly be the justification for a delay tomorrow?

We only use the make-up days if we drop below 180 due to closures.

Well aware of that, genius. Fox 5 was ONLY talking about MCPS even though Loudoun and Anne Arundel were off as well. Can you read?

And what district is the largest? It shouldn't be surprising that MoCo would get the most coverage.

DP..it's because MoCo parents complained to Fox 5 per usual. Try and keep up.

No, it's morelike Fox News gets a lot of mileage from mocking liberal public school systems, they probably even have some people on the payroll scraping barrels to find stories like this one.

Guess you missed all of 2020-21 when Jennifer Reesman, Dawn Iannaco-Hahn, and Margery Smelkinson constantly called Fox 5. I was an intern then and it was absurd. It was a near daily basis event. Everyone was so sick of them.

Let the kids and teachers be happy. It’s f’ing cold and icy.

If you are so miserable, give your kids lists of chores, study for hours, and make them make you dinner.

The rest of us like that our kids and teens get sleep, sledding, and smiles

lol, this.

My kids loved sleeping in, and then sledding and building snow castles and making snow angels (ES age).

Rest of you Karens, can't wait to hear your outrage on Friday when MCPS will close schools again. Its been so many years since we had a good snowfall and instead of letting your kids have fun, all you care about is missing school. Weren't you ever a kid?

I’m hoping tomorrow will have 2 hour delay so my teen can sleep in. It’s really freaking cold to walk and stand in the wind at 7am. I seriously don’t care if they miss 2 hours of education.

This. HS teacher here. If you are concerned about learning loss, you should focus your energy on MCPS instituting a stricter cell phone policy.
Cell phones have negatively impacted learning in a big way. Y’all would be shocked if you spent some time in random high school classrooms and saw how much time kids spend on their phones

And stop sending your kid to school with a phone. It's a want not a need.
