Rob Reiner: a vote for No Labels, Bobby Kennedy, Cornel West or Jill Stein is a vote for Trump

This might be good for career politicians but it's not good for voters because, in the end, we don't really have a choice and democracy is just a joke. Every year we play the same stupid game of voting for the same people and the same party. Votes are now taken for granted because there's no viable third party.

And has anyone done to break the stalemate, apart from swinging for the fences every four years and whining that the system is rigged?

No, because both parties enjoy the status quo. This thread is all about not voting third party. Both Nancy and Hillary have been vocal about "a vote for a third party is a vote for Trump" rhetoric. It's like the DNC is scared of a little competition. It's the DNC's job to convince people to vote for Biden. Instead, it's been a campaign of why voters shouldn't vote for a third party candidate.

This. There is very little self-awareness or willingness to think what is it about our party and our chosen candidate that people do not want to vote for them and what can we do to fix that. Instead it’s just people incessantly repeating that if you don’t vote for Biden you’re supporting Trump, destroying democracy, etc. No, it was actually your responsibility if you want my vote to put forward a solid candidate for me to choose. Instead you gave us 80 year old Joe Biden. Own the deficiencies with the candidate you decided to put forward.

Other than Biden being old, and him having been chosen by a majority of Democratic primary voters who knew how old he was, why oh why are you singling out the party that’s actually doing a decent job? Why oh why are you both sidesing with the party that’s palling around with Putin, committing treason, overthrowing the government, crushing democracy, cheating to win, denying reality… why is that?

Have you not seen what has happened to other elderly politicians of late? Why would I want to take the chance of a similar decline in the leader of the free world? I am also just not impressed with what he’s accomplished. It’s been a very meh presidency. The people you keep berating are not the voters who chose him. We’re not siding with the Republicans, but we are saying the Democrat nominee is terrible and that is why a vote for a 3rd candidate takes away from Biden. If Biden was such an appealing candidate you wouldn’t have to be obsessed with No Labels. But because he’s not a good candidate, here we are.

You know what’s fun about poster like you? I don’t have to care about you. I inherited SO MUCH MONEY from Trump’s tax cut. My family sold a 300 million dollar company and we got to keep so much more of that because of Trump. I didn’t vote for him, and I’ll never vote for him, but it makes me feel so much better. I did my part. If the people most likely hurt by is presidency don’t care, why should I worry? I’m not having any more children, and my daughter has the means to one day spend her entire pregnancy abroad should we become concerned about her healthcare. We don’t have mortgages. We don’t worry about funding college. So whatever. Cast a vote that moves you further away from you goals. I’m just gonna live off interest and not worry about it.

Ok but you don't really matter much. But your vote is basically inconsequential in presidential elections. You are a tiny minority of voters and I doubt you live in a swing state. Your biggest threat or benefit in term of elections of what you do with your money/power, if anything, to support certain outcomes.

I live in a purple state. My vote matters.
As far as donations…. I don’t have Pritzker money… yet 😉
But everything I’m reading now states that the game has really changed to small dollar donations. So I’m gonna send 20 bucks here and there and call it day!
And not lose a wink of sleep. Good luck getting a second Trump presidency to forgive your student loans, or support trade unions. Good luck with prenatal healthcare. We are all
Stuck in the sh++y world Trump ushers in and the very possible break down of democracy, but let’s be real… “they” aren’t coming for me. I’m in the group. It’s a club and I’m in it, whether I asked to join or not.
So take your vote where ever you want! Feel all your feelings about Biden not winning you over. You are entitled to it. Wonder what you will be entitled to in a second Trump term….

Biden supporter here. Let them eat cake is not really a good look for the Dems, or the GOP for that matter. You clearly can let anybody eat cake and go about your business just fine but if you are not helping any candidate or any kind with that message.

I’m to in charge of messaging. Just not all sympathetic to purists that want to cut off their own noses. Contrarians aren’t winnable. Stop worrying about people that aren’t worried about themselves. You can’t care more about them, than they care about themselves. There are reachable voters out there. These aren’t them.

The contrarians on here are just trolls trying to pretend third party candidates are not spoilers. The correct message is that they do function as spoilers so don't be an ignorant fool.

Your vote is going to have the effect of helping trump or helping Biden. Deal with that. If you don't care, then do whatever you want. If you are not comatose and actually can form an opinion about which if these very very very different options is better, then vote accordingly.

I’ve already said who I’m voting for.

They definitely used to function as spoilers but with candidates as awful as Trump and Biden heading our two dysfunctional major parties, they could be legitimate contenders in 2024.

Wrong. What third party candidate is taking what state? Can't wait to hear this.

Could be legitimate contenders if and only if Biden and Trump both stay in the race. If either back out, they would be replaced by a normal candidate and 3rd parties would go back to having zero chance.

What contender is winning what state? Let us know

Al Gore would easily take Iowa and Minnesota. He's old but not as old as Trump and Biden.

Old al gore with Iowa and Minnesota is not taking the white house. Not even close

I'll take Al over the other two clowns any day.

Iowa will go to trump. Not gore or Biden or anyone else. Next?

I think Iowans are too smart to go Trump or Biden.

So who will they vote for then?

Maddie Poppe? Who cares as long as people aren't voting for Trump or Biden?

That's not going to happen. Deal with the real world, not a fantasy world.

You can vote for your "amazing" Trumps and Bidens all you want. Most of the rest of us aren't falling for that garbage again.

Your vote will help one or the other be president regardless if you choose one directly or assist one with your protest vote. That jlis just the way our garbage system works. Sorry

Yes, our system sucks. We all wish we had better choices. But in the end, it’s either Biden or Trump. I prefer to keep democracy, so I know who I’m voting for.

This is what the RNC/DNC Trump/Biden campaign workers surely want all of us to believe because they're terrified of their awful candidates causing them lose their stranglehold on power in America. I have some advice. Either get new candidates or apply for a job with a different political entity. America is not putting up with your divisive madness any longer.

It has been the Dems vs the GOP for a very long time and we are still here. You have a lot of analysis to present to justify exactly how and who is winning the white house from a third party. You offer no reasonable path to make this fantasy land claim.

It has been the Dems vs the GOP for a very long time but never before have they stubbornly ignored the sentiment of most Americans by their continuing support of two deeply unpopular candidates that have no business leading the country for 4 more years. The American people didn't put the country in this predicament, the leadership or lack there of within the GOP and Dem parties put us in this predicament. Stop blaming the people.

You offer so realistic path to this outcome you want. It is just a tantrum. It does not change anything.

Because remaining quiet and bending over for the rich and powerful network of folks behind the curtains at the RNC and DNC while they run this country into the ground is the right thing to do? Umkay.

I’m gonna regret asking…
But what exactly do you want to see happen. Regardless of who is elected. What changes do you want to see?

Disgruntled PP didn’t provide answers to this question, but I think potential 3rd party voters are tired of Rs/Ds providing little to no actual results pertaining to: controlling healthcare costs, the cost of college/student debt, immigration reform, the environment, overseas military spending. Part of the reason 3rd party/independent voters are independent is because they aren’t married to a concept that pushes them into one camp or the other (eg single-payer), but just want “something better”. Maybe that comes across as “unserious”, but I do think that a 3rd party candidate who can tap into and speak to those voters can make some waves. For all his warts, RFK Jr. is polling at 20ish percent in polls that match him up with Biden and Trump.

Considering he’s siphoning off would-be Trump voters and that it was the GOP who paid him to run as a Democrat, honestly thinking he’d win a Democratic primary, that’s funny.

Oh, I’m sorry, I should write like a “third partier.” I have no political feelings or policy goals. Both parties equally bad. I am a robot. Both parties. Both parties. The people’s choice. Both parties.

Biden has not shoved a women into the wall and sexually assaulted her and been required to pay significant damages so I think the choice is pretty clear for anyone with daughters, or sons.

Trumps kids are Ivy educated and healthy. Biden is a failure in every area.

Trump shoved a women against the wall and sexually assaulted her. Having him represent our daughters is a disqualifying insult. I don't think you actually have daughters.

No one wants or needs Trump or Biden in the White House for another term. Let's move on.

We thank Biden for winning in 2020. We'll thank him again in 2024 for stepping out of the race so that a candidate much more likely to beat Trump in 2024 can be the nominee.

I can stand Trump but let's not pretend that Sniffy Biden is much better. He also wants to change Title IX to allow males with a mental disorder equal access to women's spaces including sports. That's not just insulting, it's dangerous, illiberal, and discriminatory toward real women.

Get a new political consultant already. You all have been trying too hard with that trans stuff for how many elections now? It is not working for you. No one cares. Come to us when a rape allegation sticks to Biden in court like it has for your hero pu**y grabber.

You do have the let's be represented by a rapist vote locked down. I will give you that.
I'm a Democrat. And I have daughters. We live in an area (Montgomery Co., MD) that allows males to play girls' sports and use their bathrooms and locker rooms as long as they say they are girls which is simply insane. Bastardizing the very law that helped women and girls gain so much ground over the past 50 years to accommodate men with a mental disorder is bonkers.

You may be one of the few voters where that is your big issue. You are entitled to that. Just saying it is just not a big issue for most in the scheme of things. And it is not for lack of the gop trying.

But I am fine if that is where they focus their resources because it doesn't work. But keep at it. Helps the Dems

As a Dem, I'd rather see us tell leftists to go pound sand. If we embraced working class people and focused on economics rather than identity politics, we'd never lose another election again. Even with all his woes, Trump is ahead of Biden is a fair number of polls which is not good.

Biden is trying to change title IX to make these policies the law of the land. That would make school boards irrelevant on this topic. Apparently you didn't know this so you're welcome.

I can't vote for Biden because he supports racial equity which requires racial discrimination. He also supports males with a mental disorder over females 8n Title IX which is illiberal and insane. As the father of daughters, I can't vote for someone who does this.

If anyone has told working people to go pound sand in terms of wages, health insurance and healthcare, drug prices along other issues it is the GOP.

I don't care about the GOP. I'm talking about how to fix our party so we never lose to the Rs again and getting rid of identity politics would go a long way in doing that. Somehow we let terrible illiberal leftist ideas like gender ideology and equity infect our party and it's losing a lot of votes for us.

We have to agree to disagree. It is the GOP that courts racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-science, voters.
Sorry but leftism is racist, sexist, and anti-science and they have too much influence on our party. I and many other non-leftist Democrats have no way to influence Republicans other than voting against them. That becomes increasingly difficult when my party supports illiberal laws and policies that would directly harm my family due to their sex and skin color. There are enough people who feel like me that Trump is in danger of winning in 2024. I would like to see my party dump identity politics and go all in on economics.

All the people among your family and friends that have been sexually assaulted, or are gay, or have had an abortion, or need birth control, or fertility treatments among situations, might appreciate the Dems fighting for their protection and rights. You may not even know how many family and friends you have in these groups but you have them.
