Yes the neckline is weird but the dress is a stunner anyway, sorry but show me a British royal other than Kate who has EVER looked this good in anything:

Speaking of a dress making your bust look weird!

And SHE HAS BARE ARMS.
And her skin tone is uneven - her upper arms are lighter than below her elbow.
And what's going on with that nipple brooch - does she think she's Janet Jackson?

It's not that it makes your bust look weird, it's that QEII had, in popular parlance, a set of tig ole bitties.

Her eyebrows look microbladed oh look she's a trendsetter.

Sorry but regardless of the size of your bosom, wearing a big red sash over it and then affixing a giant gold medal to your left boob and only your left boob does in fact tend to draw the eye in a strange way.

But please, go on explaining how Meghan is a travesty compared to this family of fashionistas.

That wasn't a fashion choice. It's Queen shit.
You thought the sash was fashion thing?

She looks terrible. The dress doesn't fit her.

I disagree. I think it's a weird dress and that it is fitted to her perfectly. It's just a weird dress. The waist is supposed to by high because that's the only way to get the dramatic poof of the train. The bust and straps are... a choice. I don't think it's a great dress but I think it fits her as well as it would fit anyone other than a 6 foot tall model with no chest. And I think it would still look weird on the model.

The color is really great on her.

She has back fat bulging out the top.
No shame, most of us have it. But how can you say it's fitted to her perfectly? It clearly isn't.

There is no such thing as a stunning dress with a weird neckline. The neckline frames your face, which is the most important thing about a person. When the neckline is screwed, so is the rest.

We aren't running a contest within the BRF, we're evaluating Markle on her own merits against the claimed label of a good dresser.

But yes, come to think of it, I've never seen THAT much skin on Kate, and for that, I'm sincerely grateful.

The rules change constantly though. This is someone whose every move has been scrutinized by the press for the last 4+ years. She looks great most of the time. It's fine you don't like the bust on this one dress. It's fine if you think that one pair of pants was ill-fitting. I disagree but whatever.

The point is, if you can't admit that MM is a fashionable woman who knows how to dress, you are being disingenuous and looking for things to dislike about her. She is a beautiful woman who looks great in clothes and despite being in the public eye and having a veritable army of reporters who have made it their mission in life to catch her looking bad on camera, she still mostly manages to look great. Do you have any freaking idea how hard that would be?

I mean I could sit here and drag up all Kate's missteps from the handful of years before and after she married William -- there were a million of them and she had a lot more goodwill that Meghan gets. But I don't dislike Kate and I'm not petty AF so I won't.

She looked good at the funeral and was appropriate and didn't do a single thing wrong the entire week. It's honestly sad that some of you can't just admit that.

I mean look, Meghan is a beautiful woman, I give you that. I think she often dresses inappropriately, and she, like so many of us, misjudges her size and forgoes foundation garments. It's not a capital sin.

Here is the thing: there are different standards at play for people who CLAIM to be good dressers and people who DON'T. People are forgiving of Kate because she, quite frankly, is NOT fashion forward and does not outwardly ASPIRE to be that way. Meghan, on the other hand, has ambitions to be tasteful and stylish. Therefore, she's scrutinized more and judged more harshly. Like, no one judges the way Eugenie or Beatrice dress because they do not pretend to be stylish.

I agree with this, although I think it’s hard to disentangle my feelings about some of her actions (e.g.Oprah interview) from my take on her clothes. But I was SO excited for to join the royal family, watched the wedding with my DD and was really cheering her on in the beginning. And I did think back then she looked really fantastic often, but not always and it’s gone downhill since then. That red dress that people keep posting is a designer multi-thousand dollar dress. Several of her other looks that were just a bit off were also crazy expensive and designer. Meanwhile she gave out an award at London Fashion week and semi-regularly poses for photo shoots wearing designer outfits, like she did recently for the Cut. Of course people are holding her to a different standard than like Fergie. I guess it’s partly interesting because there’s usually quite a bit that is good and novel about her outfits, even if I don’t think it’s perfect. I actually think she’s generally looked pretty good this week although I maintain the gloves look weird to me.

Kate on the other hand I find kind of interesting because her clothes are essentially costumes to me. I am never going to have an occasion to wear one of her coat dresses, precisely because I’m not a future queen. I feel a different kind of interest in her clothes than I do like Blake Lively or someone who is more of a celebrity who isn’t playing a ceremonial role most of the time. I don’t really know how to explain it. I posted earlier that I personally love Letiza’s style and it’s much closer to something I’d wear in real life. But I guess if I’m enjoying the fantasy of what a princess might dress like, I personally like how Kate does it now. Agree she had some real missteps in her early days too.

She looked amazing in those photos for the Cut. I didn't read the puff piece because I could care less but the photos were beautiful. I don't get what your point is -- she knows how to wear clothes.

I guess we disagree. I think she is capable of looking wonderful, and does on occasion, but at other times things look odd/poorly fitted/somewhat inappropriate despite having apparently tons of money to work with and presenting herself as a fashionista and very much in the public eye. I just think it’s different than comparing to some random royal lady who happened to be at the funeral.

Oh good lord. First of all, Kate 100% aspires to be fashionable in a "I'm gonna be queen one day" way. She is actively trying to look good and has always sought to use her appearance to boost her public persona AND her clout within the royal family. Don't be naive. She is great at it now but it took her a while to find her stride. Do you not recall the great furor over how much the Queen hated Kate's espadrilles? She's a fashion plate but she's been in the same job for a decade and she's hit her stride.

Eugenie and Beatrice want nothing more than to be considered cool and stylish. It is honestly part of their charm. The love clothes and dressing up and nothing brings them more pleasure than a royal wedding where they can wear something insane on their bodies and their heads and get their picture in the papers. Yes, the want to be stylish and if you don't think they admire Meghan's ability to dress than you are kidding yourself. Meghan is beautiful and knows how to dress.

Nope I disagree with you on Kate. She dresses, most of the time, in a way that 95% of the population would not want to imitate - too conservative, too careful. She dresses well for her job, yes, but no one else has that job. Believe me, no woman her age wants to wear these clothes. She's not a fashion plate at all.

Eugenie and Beatrice have never had anything but a quirky English look. Neither has ever been known for beauty or style, and no one expects it from them.

Meghan is beautiful, yes. In my opinion, her dressing choices are often wrong for her and for the occasion. Recollections vary.

Ok.

Oh interesting, you like the green dress? I think most of your other examples are really good choices of times she looked phenomenal. But that green get up was horrible to me.

Really? Worse than the flower on Middleton's mother's hat?

They both looked inelegant, IMO. I like Jill but the bow headband looked childish. Carole looked gaudy.

It's funny to remember that the British press used to sneer at Kate/Kate's family bc their money is from their party supply business (even though they have aristocratic backgrounds). Now the whole family can do no wrong bc the press hates Meghan so much.

They do?

No, they don’t.

Whoever posted that photo as an example of a royal looking particularly stylish apparently did.

This is the Beauty & Fashion forum, not the worshipping royal deities forum. Everyone gets that the Queen's power lay in being the Queen, not looking fashionable. But there IS power in being very stylish and beautiful, and it's a power that Meghan Markle wields, and it appears that some people are very bothered by this which is why she is consistently criticized for her appearance despite consistently looking better than the most of the BRF at royal events, including the Queen's funeral. Even if you don't personally like her dress, the idea that she wasn't one of the best dressed people there is a joke. I don't personally like royal drag but can acknowledge the people who turned it out very well, including Kate and Sophie.

Charlotte is super cute.

Yees, her face was darker and she had a lot of eye makeup on. KM's makeup was really well done imo.

Some of the makeup and outfits photographed better than others. Kate looked completely impeccable and regal and her children were just precious. Deeply feeling, well behaved, normal healthy kids. Kate’s makeup photographed really beautifully- she is aware of her place in history. So thankful she is there for William.

I think they look great and add interest, but I never see anyone actually wearing them in real life unless they are elderly. It seems like a 1950's trend in America, but I'm thinking of getting one for my coat. I really liked that large pearl leaf one that Kate wore a week or two ago and that had been the Queen's.

I wear a broach on my wool winter coat -- I love it. I also like the look on sweaters. Even better, a silk scarf draped over a sweater and then secured with a broach! But yes, these latter examples feel over the top in most settings. If I were back in a conservative office I'd do it though. Especially as I get older, I think you can get away with stuff like this a little more that would look silly on a younger woman. But I'm WFH now and broaches on my indoor clothes are too much. But I have a big one I wear on my black coat in the winter and I love that it's a little bit of color and sparkle in the middle of the winter on an otherwise pretty unassuming black coat.

If you’re going to rock a brooch you should learn how to spell it first.

That piece of jewelry can be referred to as a broach. Maybe you need to read more.

Nope! https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/brooch-vs-broach-usage

MM gets more criticism bc people find her annoying and off-putting, not necessarily bc the clothing choices are inherently wrong.
