Yes the neckline is weird but the dress is a stunner anyway, sorry but show me a British royal other than Kate who has EVER looked this good in anything.
There is no such thing as a stunning dress with a weird neckline. The neckline frames your face, which is the most important thing about a person. When the neckline is screwed, so is the rest. We aren't running a contest within the BRF, we're evaluating Markle on her own merits against the claimed label of a good dresser. But yes, come to think of it, I've never seen THAT much skin on Kate, and for that, I'm sincerely grateful.
The rules change constantly though. This is someone whose every move has been scrutinized by the press for the last 4+ years. She looks great most of the time. It's fine you don't like the bust on this one dress. It's fine if you think that one pair of pants was ill-fitting. I disagree but whatever. The point is, if you can't admit that MM is a fashionable woman who knows how to dress, you are being disingenuous and looking for things to dislike about her. She is a beautiful woman who looks great in clothes and despite being in the public eye and having a veritable army of reporters who have made it their mission in life to catch her looking bad on camera, she still mostly manages to look great. Do you have any freaking idea how hard that would be? I mean I could sit here and drag up all Kate's missteps from the handful of years before and after she married William -- there were a million of them and she had a lot more goodwill that Meghan gets. But I don't dislike Kate and I'm not petty AF so I won't. She looked good at the funeral and was appropriate and didn't do a single thing wrong the entire week. It's honestly sad that some of you can't just admit that.
I mean look, Meghan is a beautiful woman, I give you that. I think she often dresses inappropriately, and she, like so many of us, misjudges her size and forgoes foundation garments. It's not a capital sin. Here is the thing: there are different standards at play for people who CLAIM to be good dressers and people who DON'T. People are forgiving of Kate because she, quite frankly, is NOT fashion forward and does not outwardly ASPIRE to be that way. Meghan, on the other hand, has ambitions to be tasteful and stylish. Therefore, she's scrutinized more and judged more harshly. Like, no one judges the way Eugenie or Beatrice dress because they do not pretend to be stylish.
I agree with this, although I think it’s hard to disentangle my feelings about some of her actions (e.g.Oprah interview) from my take on her clothes. But I was SO excited for to join the royal family, watched the wedding with my DD and was really cheering her on in the beginning. And I did think back then she looked really fantastic often, but not always and it’s gone downhill since then. That red dress that people keep posting is a designer multi-thousand dollar dress. Several of her other looks that were just a bit off were also crazy expensive and designer. Meanwhile she gave out an award at London Fashion week and semi-regularly poses for photo shoots wearing designer outfits, like she did recently for the Cut. Of course people are holding her to a different standard than like Fergie. I guess it’s partly interesting because there’s usually quite a bit that is good and novel about her outfits, even if I don’t think it’s perfect. I actually think she’s generally looked pretty good this week although I maintain the gloves look weird to me. Kate on the other hand I find kind of interesting because her clothes are essentially costumes to me. I am never going to have an occasion to wear one of her coat dresses, precisely because I’m not a future queen. I feel a different kind of interest in her clothes than I do like Blake Lively or someone who is more of a celebrity who isn’t playing a ceremonial role most of the time. I don’t really know how to explain it. I posted earlier that I personally love Letiza’s style and it’s much closer to something I’d wear in real life. But I guess if I’m enjoying the fantasy of what a princess might dress like, I personally like how Kate does it now. Agree she had some real missteps in her early days too.
She looked amazing in those photos for the Cut. I didn't read the puff piece because I could care less but the photos were beautiful. I don't get what your point is -- she knows how to wear clothes.
I guess we disagree. I think she is capable of looking wonderful, and does on occasion, but at other times things look odd/poorly fitted/somewhat inappropriate despite having apparently tons of money to work with and presenting herself as a fashionista and very much in the public eye. I just think it’s different than comparing to some random royal lady who happened to be at the funeral.
