Navy ES Principal Arrested

I have to assume there's one or two PTA moms who got close to him who are posting all these supportive posts over and over again. I can't imagine there are that many people in the community that think someone who was drunk driving in the middle of the day and fled the scene of the crime is the right kind of person to lead this school. I'll be honest that I'm a Crossfield parent who did not send my child to Navy for AAP because of its reputation (we know people switching back for 4th grade because it sounds socially brutal) and, personally, would hope that a new principal is able to come in and tear down some of the walls dividing regular and AAP students. I would feel much more comfortable sending my child there if that were the case.

So these are current third graders in Navy AAP wanting to switch back to Crossfield? Interesting. My child is not in AAP and has had a good experience. They are on sports teams with a couple kids in AAP and they are nice, though their parents are a bit intense. I do wish the groups were less divided. They are just kids and probably have a lot more in common than not.

I'm sure it only takes a couple kids in a class to ruin a dynamic, and the smaller size of AAP can exacerbate that. I know someone whose child has been bullied pretty badly at Crossfield and it seems to be one kid who is the main problem. Third grade in general seems to be the age where kids can start to be truly mean to one another.

We are at navy, but if we were zoned for crossfield, we would have stayed there for AAP. The divide at Navy is too great and I would welcome a principal that would do a better job of not dividing the kids. Especially when FCPS is always talking about equity, the aap/pbl divide at Navy is at odds with this. The old principal, who had one too many beers on a holiday, seemed to exacerbate this and I don't think it was good for the kids and the school overall. I hope that something is done about this.

+1 how about we start by having grade level teams do collaborative activities for SS and science? And take field trips together at least? 4th grade has has no field trips, except for the county mandated Kennedy Center orchestra one which was a snooze.

Michelle Reid and Douglas Tyson are holding a meeting for the Navy community!

I am glad they schedule a meeting but two days from now is very short notice. It's going to make it hard for a lot of parents to attend who would otherwise want to come.

Doubtful. The Navy PTO was encouraging people to send emails. Seems that it worked.

Of course they are happy! They are completely separated from the “other” kids.

I have a “PBL” kid at Navy and would love to have Coch back. Meier is below a non-presence (and is very arrogant) and I’m sad Marotta is leaving.

Marotta should be made principal.
