What am I doing today? Well, right now I’m having coffee and reminding people on DCUM that the people who are fine with forcing a raped 10-year-old to give birth are truly sick mf-ers. Then I’ll probably have some breakfast, and start researching which organizations I’ll donate to that can help provide access to abortions for the most vulnerable girls and women in the states where it’s being restricted. And tomorrow I’ll be grilling out and taking my kids to see the fireworks. What will you be doing to help? |

I’m doing concrete things to fight for my rights and the rights of my daughter, but whether or not I participate in a BBQ or go to my neighborhood’s July 4th pool party will make zero impact on any of this.

Most pro-lifers are women. |
NP. And? Those women also need access to safe abortions for ectopic pregnancies, incomplete miscarriages, rape, incest, etc etc. |
So if you are doing a whole lot of nothing (sorry rambling on dcum doesn’t count), why are you chastising others for the same? You are also shrugging your shoulders and giving up. So I guess you are also “f-ing sick” by your standards. |
Yeah, so touched a nerve I guess? Presumably you’re one of the people who think it’s fine to force a child to give birth. How about this: why don’t you outline exactly what the individuals on this thread could and should be doing to help. Give us explicit instructions. Thanks! |
I’m active in foster care so I’m reaching out to right to life “I will adopt your child” posters to place children with them. Also I’m going to gather with friends just not for the “independent day”. |
| We are traveling to the land of the Bernie Bros and nothing is cancelled. We might even see Bernie in the parade, rumor has it. |
Same! I think that it is primarily one or two trolls posting here and they obviously have very limited experiences outside of the US. Like you, we are well traveled all over the world. The US is a wonderful country, slightly imperfect, but it is a shining star compared to many other countries, developed and undeveloped. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We are all very lucky to live here and should be celebrating that. At our house, we will be holding a large party all day and then going to watch the fireworks to celebrate the good fortune that we have to live here in the US and our nation's capital! |
+1 The grass is not always greener. No matter where I travel the USA is my home! |
| 1% of women obtain an abortion because they became pregnant through rape, and less than 0.5% do so because of incest. |
I won't deny that I am glad that he isn't president but I am thrilled that people like Bernie are able to run for president and that people were able to vote for him if they wanted. That's the stuff that makes the US so great and I don't want to live anywhere else in the world. The USA is the best country in the world and we are lucky to live here. Celebrate it, folks! PS, I hope that he is in the parade so you get to see him! |
Totally agree. We are an International Family. Living in the States has certain benefits (particularly with regard to furthering my career, and my DH’s career) But there are many other places in the world that offer more culture, safety, freedom, and a higher standard of education than the US. For those who realize that Independence Day is a farce, and wish to live elsewhere, I encourage you to spread your wings and fly. Enjoy what the world has to offer while you are still on it. After all, there is more to life than cheap petrol, a “right” to own battle weapons, and having MacDonalds Restaurants everywhere. |
And that 1% and 0.5% deserve access to safe abortions, especially considering what they’ve already been through. Wouldn’t you agree? |
