For the love of god: the Democrats have a super majority in Mass and can force the R gov to pick a D replacement. She is clearly the best overall fit for VP.

Nope. He has to pick a Black female.

No he doesn't.

Sheesh, I don’t care if it’s a black female or a white female! Just pick someone with smarts and energy and who can charm a crowd.

I am a black female, I literally do not care about the VP candidate's race. I didn't care about the sex either, but since he promised a woman, he now sticks to his word. I don't even care if she's not charming, though that's nice, I think we get too caught up on personality in America. I just want someone competent for the job of VP, and if need be President.

Biden does not have to do anything despite what his supporters or donors may want. Just ask Clyburn (who has never made any demands) or any of donors who will be angling for appointments and influence. This is Joe's pick and he will likely base it on personal chemistry among those who have made it through all the vetting and are on the final short list. That's why the women who do not know Biden well already are long shots.

Harris probably has an edge because of her professional relationship with Beau. She reportedly said to Joe Biden years ago, "I love Beau, and I love you." Biden would probably enjoy working with Harris and he clearly is not holding any grudges about her debate performance against him.

Rice is a fallback possibility because she knows Biden, but he also must know her reputation. She is much more likely to end up in a key cabinet post.

Warren also seems to have bonded with Biden over policy. But she is just as valuable, if not more, in the U.S. Senate where she will be the shadow Majority Leader. Plus, there is no point in risking the Senate for Warren.

Biden also might have gotten to know the Tammys because Baldwin has been in Washington for 22 years and due to the fact that Duckworth is a rising star. In particular, Baldwin could be a surprise pick because she and Joe are both lifelong legislators and no one else in consideration has that in common with him. I just hope Baldwin is getting a fair opportunity.

As VP from 2009-2017, with a very busy schedule, he is less likely to have interacted much with less senior members of the House or a state legislator from Michigan. To the extent that any of these women are getting interviewed this week for the first time, they will have a difficult time breaking through. They will have other opportunities in the future.

What about the other rice? Condi? Is she endorsing Biden?

I think she is too busy dodging questions on iraq and “consulting” for conglomerates to care.

Besides Warren, she is the only one capable day one.

No, Whitmer is capable from day one. Raimondo is capable from day one.

Some insiders have said that the short list has narrowed to two picks: Harris and Rice.

Others are still on the vetting list just in case, but the insiders say they would be surprised to see him pick anyone outside of these two.

. He picked the worse two. Unbelievable. He may as well have picked Warren and offered State and AG roles. Makes no sense.

Well, unfortunately, the black community is not very diverse. There’s not a lot to pick from there. At least, according to the presumptive nominee

From Jen Psaki? Another veteran of the Obama Administration. Come on.

This is political malpractice.

It seems a bit foolish to compare the experience of Rice with Whitmer. I think they are on completely different tiers.

Taken in context, I agree. This is why black communities are often distinguished from black immigrant communities. This isn’t surprising. Latino/a communities are larger and more diverse in their cultural ties to their nation of origin too.

From your link:
“the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different things.“

I see what you’re trying to do here, but there is no there there. Nothing offensive about what he is saying. We all have a long way to go.

+1. It’s like 2016 all over again but with the two most politicized and controversial black women for the election. Stupid to put them front and center and expect to trust/trend the voter démographics in any reliable way 4 years from now because of it.

I hope everyone is getting a fair opportunity. And Joe uses his wisdom and his good judgment.
