Biden's VP?

For the love of god: the Democrats have a super majority in Mass and can force the R gov to pick a D replacement. She is clearly the best overall fit for VP.

How would that work? My understanding is that had to be done according to a particular timeline, now past.

Lujan Grisham is a far more practical choice. Not only does she have the same gubernatorial experience, she also has 3 terms as a Congresswoman, plus Congressional leadership experience (Congressional Hispanic Caucus). Plus she has several years experience as a Secretary of Health. So she has public health and executive experience, plus she has experience in Washington dealing with Congress. So much more layered and practical than Whitmer who only has state level experience.

While Whitmer may be good for Michigan, Lujan Grisham will be good for getting out the Latino vote and helping in Arizona, which has become a swing state. Plus she can campaign in Spanish in Texas and Florida, both of which are swing states this year.

It's not clear to me that this the case. The Hispanic community is not a monolith - and her Basque bona fides are not super relevant to the Cuban and Dominican vote.

An earlier PP posted in more depth about this.

Anyway, this is the kind of scurrilous sh*t Biden can look forward to:

I think that you are misreading the latino vote, which is not a monolith. For one, she is half-white, the daughter of a dentist, and went to prep school. Also, she does not speak spanish. Yes, she will appeal to some second generation+ latinos, but maybe not to first generation lower/working class. Turn out in Arizona and many of the midwestern states that have pockets of latino communities will depend on the latter group.

The cries of Radical Left Puppet is what you’ll hear about Biden if it’s Warren and the progressives are not voting for Trump. It won’t be Warren.

Also, I think that Biden's donors from the financial and tech industry would not be happy if she was picked due to her tough approach to wall street/silicon valley. After all, he did tell them "nothing would fundamentally change." I hate that we are in a political climate where things like donor's preferences are a factor but this is the world we live in.

This is a good point.

To you. And frankly, to me as well, but the VP pick is not to appeal to those of us who are voting blue no matter what.

I am not a registered Democrat. I found Obama likeable when he ran in '08, thought he was a little light on experience and frankly not knowing much about him I was skeptical. Joe Biden as his VP didn't matter to me, but Sarah Palin as McCain's VP mattered to me a lot. A WHOLE LOT.

Democrats should not make the mistake that people are voting FOR Joe Biden. They aren't. They are voting for a return to some level of competence and normalcy. Susan Rice is a hugely polarizing figure that has never been elected to office. I don't care if she played basketball in high school. I don't care that she's incredibly smart. I don't care that Joe Biden gets along with her. I don't care if she's qualified. She is the wrongest of wrong picks.

The Democrats suck at strategic planning really badly. It's kind of amazing how bad they are at it. Picking a Susan Rice would be one choice in a long line of bad choices. I think Biden's advisors are doing him a major disservice right now. His latest interview was not great. He's old as hell. At least the Kamala people can get behind Kamala being VP. Who does Susan Rice have?

Totally agree that Rice is the wrong pick -- Biden does NOT need a VP that the GOP has already written hundreds of pages of script against (search and replace "Clinton" with "Rice").

We need new and different and -- IMHO -- dark-skinned. The GOP can only go so hard at a black woman before their true colors start to be revealed.

Both could be good picks for swing voters.

Sheesh, I don’t care if it’s a black female or a white female! Just pick someone with smarts and energy and who can charm a crowd.
