He doesn’t need to worry about California voters or progressives. He needs to focus on the swing voters in the swing states. He needs to give the fence sitters a reason to vote for him. There are a lot of voters that normally vote Republican that for the first time in their life might vote Democrat. He needs these swing voters. Everyone else in the party will vote for him anyway.

Of he needs to drive AA turnout, which could make the difference in swing states like MI, OH, PA, FL. He may have to pick one strategy.

Or Plan C, keep letting Trump embarrass himself so much that Republicans either do not vote or vote for the lesser evil.

This happened to some degree in 2016. People did not vote Trump but they did not vote for HRC either. Biden needs to swings those votes and get them to check his name on that ballot.

The "Anybody But Biden" demographic is much smaller than the "Anybody But Clinton" demographic was in 2016. In 2016, the ABC and ABT contingents were about 45/45 of the uncommitted voters in swing states. The ABB contingent is only about 10% of the uncommitted vote and the ABT has grown to about 60% of the uncommitted voters in the swing states.

Oy. This is what I said about Rice from the beginning. She's the only one, maybe other than Warren, who would clearly boost GOP turnout. Although I don't think electability should be his number one concern--clear the election is more a referendum on Trump than anything else--it's not irrelevant.

+1 If Biden doesn't want Harris and recognizes that Rice is the biggest GOP problem, Bass might still have a chance. Clyburn, Pelosi, Richmond, Hoyer together with prominent progressives are pushing hard for her. Even with her problems, she could be a strong coalition pick and would guarantee high Black turnout:

I like Duckworth, Baldwin, and Whitmer too but just can't imagine he won't pick a Black woman.

Bass is now facing communist/Castro supporter/Scientologist with also left radical thrown in. She isn’t very good at defending herself. She is out.
I like Duckworth, Baldwin, and Whitmer too but just can't imagine he won't pick a Black woman.

Hopefully it's Kamala!!!!

Anyone but is my hope. I really don’t understand the appeal of a Junior Senator from California with a failed Presidential campaign and who publicly embarrassed Biden.

If Biden really wanted her, he'd have announced already. He might settle on her in the end, but he clearly wanted to consider alternatives.

Also, Joe is a crotchety old white dude. I could see him saying "look, I've committed to a Black SC justice and my cabinet will be diverse, but I'm going with my gut here" and pick Warren or Whitmer or Grisham... He's the type that could resist all the pressure being put on him.

+1 whose strength is in litigation not campaigning or governing. She'd probably be a very good AG, but even there I'd prefer Yates.

Whitmer seems like the most practical choice.

Biden could pick Melania Trump and I would still vote for him. It really isn't all that important.

She would be a good choice because she would help with both swing states and swing voters. In this race these votes will decide the outcome.

This is what he is struggling with. He really needs Michigan and she will deliver, BUT he is under tremendous pressure to select a Black women.

I really hope it is not Kamala, she reminds me of Hillary. We really needs someone more real and not fake.

I wish he would pick Warren, but it doesn’t seem likely with the D’s precarious position in the Senate and a R governor in line to pick her replacement if she became VP.

The cries of Radical Left Puppet is what you’ll hear about Biden if it’s Warren and the progressives are not voting for Trump. It won’t be Warren.

Also, I think that Biden's donors from the financial and tech industry would not be happy if she was picked due to her tough approach to wall street/silicon valley. After all, he did tell them "nothing would fundamentally change." I hate that we are in a political climate where things like donor's preferences are a factor but this is the world we live in.

Lujan Grisham is a far more practical choice. Not only does she have the same gubernatorial experience, she also has 3 terms as a Congresswoman, plus Congressional leadership experience (Congressional Hispanic Caucus). Plus she has several years experience as a Secretary of Health. So she has public health and executive experience, plus she has experience in Washington dealing with Congress. So much more layered and practical than Whitmer who only has state level experience.

While Whitmer may be good for Michigan, Lujan Grisham will be good for getting out the Latino vote and helping in Arizona, which has become a swing state. Plus she can campaign in Spanish in Texas and Florida, both of which are swing states this year.
