No one is proposing having two holding schools. |
You sound a bit childish “but you started it!” Thats a sign of someone who refuses to take responsibility. As for backing down, everyone has a right to their individual opinion. Or do you refer to people as groups in order to assign collective guilt? That almost sounds r-ist. Tell you what, you start and tell MCPS to leave Wootton alone and force them to do it. |
Also, thanks for agreeing to remediate Wootton’s current building. Guess there’s no need to close and move to Crown. |
| This thread is funny. Been days since I came to it but the last few pages are all trolls trolling each other - a few are rage baiting and the others keep responding. Its like one of these daytime soap operas - you come back after a few months and it is still the same plot and you haven't missed anything. |
Why do I need to do that? Why aren’t you? Your school and your advocacy. Stop expecting others to fix the mess you created. It’s childish to tantrum online, create problems then demand others fix it. Your school, your responsibility. |
That's an issue with an anonymous board. It's probably just 3-4 people just talking past each other and repeating the same arguments over and over. At least with Nextdoor, I know who the neighborhood cranks are and can skip their posts. Given there won't be new information until the Superintendent makes his recommendation, we're all just spinning our wheels in here. |
You really are incredibly misinformed and frankly, you just seem really unintelligent. Wootton parents didn’t create any mess. The school is falling apart. You and I and everyone else pay taxes in MOCO for schools. Doesn’t matter if you have kids in school or not (and I suspect you don’t have kids at all and are just making idiotic comments because you are bored). MCPS has failed to provide maintenance in many schools. Until people keep pushing them to stop spending money on unimportant crap (like warehouses and boundary studies) stuff like this is just going to keep happening. They can’t just keep building new schools and then closing others. So no, we don’t own the school. It’s not our responsibility “to fix the mess”. We are taxpayers. It’s MCPS’s job and the county’s to fix the schools that need to be fixed and nobody else’s job. They need an audit and we all have a vested interest in finding out where all this money is going. |
| Why can't they buy a piece of property where they want the school then sell the old location. Wouldn't that be more or less revenue neutral? |
I don't understand the question. Currently, option H has two schools under discussion. Wootton High School on Wootton Parkway and Crown High School near Sam Eig. The land that Crown High School sits was donated by the City of Gaithersburg on the condition that a high school was built on it. It's not for MCPS to sell. I don't know enough about who owns the land under existing MCPS schools, but for Option H, Wootton would mostly likely be renovated to make it safe for students to inhabit and then used as a holding school as other schools are renovated. Either way, MCPS is going to use both sites for the foreseeable future, whether as two separate high schools (options A-D), Crown Holding School (options E-G), or Wootton Holding School (option H). |
Taylor promised transparency and accountability…guess that’s another broken promise. |
Money. |
You created the mess by wanting an instant fix. |
Please provide a citation to anyone demanding “an instant fix”? Seriously, Wootton requested remediation (possibly over the next couple of summers) and is willing to wait 10+ years on the CIP for a full renovation. |
Those are instant fixes. Parents also asked for other schools to be removed to fund Wootton. |
They did. And it was better than revenue neutral. They got a piece of land next to Downtown Crown donated for free and built a new school. So they get to move Wootton there and won't have to pay to replace the old building. The same people who are complaining about MCPS not being fiscally responsible are the same ones who are saying that MCPS should replace the building on Wootton Parkway when there's a perfectly good building at Crown. |
