I think the testimonies have been really strong at today's BOE meeting, and don't know how Taylor or the Board could proceed with Option H in good conscience. Every point of data supports keeping Wootton open. This message board also focuses a lot on the Wootton community, but I don't understand how anyone could ignore the testimonies from Magruder, Richard Montgomery, and Damascus who have all said H would be a disaster for them too.

Pretty rich of Dr. Taylor to criticize the tone of anti-H testimonies when many of them accurately pointed out that process wasn't followed whatsoever. No public engagement with the communities directly impacted by Option H.

This recommendation is a mess more generally. Reassignments all over the place.

So happy Wootton will get a new building! We didn’t testify publicly but have been sending emails to the board and Taylor about why we support option H. Just people a small group of people are louder doesn’t mean they speak for the majority.

Speaking of majority, the Superintendent's recommendation released today tallies up the MCPS Survey responses from the public -- albeit in a very specifically framed way -- and Option H consistently received the fewest or close-to-fewest votes. Understand you're excited, but those testifying represented the majority view of Wootton cluster families, and many more beyond just Wootton.

"Of the 16,527 unique responses [across October 1, 2025 through January 5, 2026], 2,137 responses included Option H when asked to identify which option(s) they prefer. Of the 16,527 unique responses, 3,816 responses included Option B when asked to identify which option(s) they prefer. Of the 16,527 unique responses, 11,138 responses included Option D when asked to identify which option(s) they prefer.

An updated version of this survey was rereleased on January 5, 2026 and open through January 9, 2026... Of the 2,315 responses, 847 responses included Option B when asked to identify which option(s) they prefer. Of the 2,315 responses, 824 responses included Option D when asked to identify which option(s) they prefer. Of the 2,315 responses, 367 responses selected Options A, B, C, and D when asked to identify which option(s) they prefer. Of the 2,315 responses, 600 responses included Option H when asked to identify which option(s) they prefer."

As BOE has explained, the choice is obviously not made by a survey response from the community. They don’t just tally the votes and blindly pick what receives the highest vote. By law they have factors they must consider . They receive public input but that input is not binding on them.

The first survey link broke within a week of responses being due, so MCPS had to create a new one.
