Biden's VP?

Agree that it should be down to a Tammy at this point. Either Duckworth or Baldwin (preferably Baldwin because she has a lot more experience).

Bass would be a great House Majority Leader. Steny has been in that role long enough. If Pelosi decides to retire, Bass would be in a perfect position to succeed her as speaker.

Rice should be well positioned to be a cabinet secretary, although Defense might be better for her than State given her reported temperament issues. She is not a diplomat.

Harris could have the AG job if she wants it, or would be a strong candidate to be an unconventional Supreme Court pick. Alternatively, she could just run again in 2024. Biden will probably need to give her something good to keep that from happening.

Warren will probably become the most influential member of the Senate. Biden can rely on her to develop and pass a domestic policy agenda. Warren may eventually become Majority Leader if AOC takes out Schumer.

Whitmer and Lance-Bottoms are still in their respective first terms but would be well positioned for something else in the future.

Demings will likely continue being a member of Congress in a safe district and would be a great resource and surrogate on law enforcement reform issues in the first term.

I agree. Tammy Duckworth and Tammy Baldwin are both strong, safe choices. They will both help in the Midwest and he needs those states.

Saw his latest list, what happened to Stacy Abrams?

She was never on his list due to lack of national/federal experience. No credibility in terms of readiness argument.

Whitmer has it nailed down at this point.

She would be a good choice because she would help with both swing states and swing voters. In this race these votes will decide the outcome.

Looks like team Obama has promised to go to bat for Rice

She held herself with class and dignity despite criticism and judgement from everyone, even black women. She rose above and beyond the calling and I will always admire and respect her for the way that she elevated national thinking and expectation not just with ourselves, but with others, and even in our families. Nothing will change that, and the resolve to remove such a contradiction of grace and respect in our public office is fueled in deep appreciation of their family’s contributions to our country. Even today. She reads books to my child, her husband encourages teens and young adults to engage in their local communities. They roll up their sleeves, and so it, step-by-step, with courage and good character.

You cannot buy or mimick that kind of dynamic that she created. She is in a class all of her own.

Can we move on? it makes me sad that we don’t have this type of attitude leading our country, or the world’s responses right now. She isn’t running, and it is pointless to consider how things would be if she were. The best thing to do is make her strides for women and decency count - and support the character that can best keep the fire going in the torch Biden is carrying forward in a few months.

Such a great post. Thank you, PP! I agree with every word.

Would he not support Duckworth, Whitmer, Baldwin, Demings, Warren? I would hope he would. Rice is not equal to Obama. They need a VP that will take votes away from Trump in the swing states. Don’t make the mistakes of 2016. Concentrate on the numbers you need and who you need them from.

Michelle supports Rice. That’s a big difference. If the Obama’s rally in support of Rice it will help to get out the critical Black vote that did not vote for HRC.

100% Susan rice, is she is VP, will not be the 2024 choice.

There will be 15 challengers aiming for her

It depends on how she performs. The last group vying for the Democratic nomination was not impressive. We can count those out. I could see some potential newcomers like Newsom.

Biden certainly does not need Bass or Harris to win votes in California. The polls show Biden is already way ahead ...by nearly 40 points

He said he's focusing on a governing pick rather than a political pick.

Hence, Whitmer.
