But most of the Crossfield neighborhoods are very close to Western. And, they are a very, very long way from Oakton. And, the school is also much closer to Western than to Oakton. Though, South Lakes may be closer than Western.

Are you proposing rezoning Fox Mill first because it is further from the Western between these two?

I am proposing Option A plus all of Floris.

It makes the most sense because it solves the most problems. South Lakes would be underenrolled if they moved Fox Mill out. And, the commute to Oakton from Crossfield neighborhoods is egregious.

I propose an Option F.

It takes all of Coates except for Worldgate and Dulles Glen, all of Crossfield except for Ashvale and Fox Mill Woods, all of Floris, All of Fox Mill, All of McNair, Navy Island, and all of Oak Hill.

Per the prior option maps, that option would take: 1005 Students from Westfield, 370 Students from South Lakes, 351 Students from Chantilly, and 436 Students from Oakton, producing a total of 2,162 students, which is not bad at all.

I would also eliminate IB from South Lakes which would make many Fox Mill families happy.

My prediction is that more families pupil place out fo SLHS for AP at Western dropping the numbers at SLHS anyway. This is even more likely if Fox Mill stays at Carson because parents will have an additional incentive to pupil place, their kids MS friends. SLHS already has between 100-130 kids pupil place to Langley, Oakton, Westfield, and Herndon for AP (Herndon) or AP and Language (Langley, Oakton, Westfield). Western will be closer so Herndon is no longer the default plain AP option and has the pathways. Toss in friends from MS and probably being able to get a bus exemption to ride on a bus from Floris, which are close by, and you have the perfect storm. Basically, SLHS is going to lose a decent amount of Fox Mill families any way. Just move Fox Mill or get rid of IB.

What makes sense to you does not matter.

Crossfield is not moving unless they have a really high opt-in number. I will give Option A or Option A plus all of Floris a less than 5% chance.

Come up with the best option that doesn’t include Crossfield. that would be Option B.

But Fox Mill may or may not be moving, depending on Meren. I would give Option B or minor variation of Option B a 40% chance.

If Fox Mill is not moving either, then the conclusion is Option E or a soft magnet with a very compact boundary. 50% or higher chance in my view.

Opt in numbers are pointless. It doesn't represent who should attend the school, just who wants to keep playing sports and who wants out of IB. No decision should be made on the boundary based on kids that won't even be going there after it finally goes into full effect.

Opt in numbers are pointless. It doesn't represent who should attend the school, just who wants to keep playing sports and who wants out of IB. No decision should be made on the boundary based on kids that won't even be going there after it finally goes into full effect.

Opting in sets next years students. The boundaries set the student population for the next 5 years, probably longer. I don’t see them mucking with a newly set boundary.

So you think it is possible that if they got 200 9th graders for example, they will set a boundary but not require anyone to go so the initial class might only have 200 kids. That also does not seem ideal.

I would be surprised if only 200 kids opted in. I expect a decent number from Floris and Fox Mill. I would guess that there will be a good number form Crossfield, the parents who don’t like the drive to Oakton. I have no idea how many will opt in from Coates and McNair. I don’t expect a lot from Oak Hill but someone posted that the families with 20 minute bus rides to Chantilly are excited about the move. I would expect most of the kids from Emerald Chase to move, their parents were pushing to leave Westfield but not go to SLHS and are happy with the new HS. I also think a good number of the kids from SLHS that pupil place to Langley or Oakton might consider it because it will be a shorter commute.

Oak Hill is not staying at Chantilly.

It is well over capacity and it is better to remove those 351 Oak Hill students or so than leave them in!

They will still remove the 340 students from Brookfield and Cub Run collectively, and send them to Westfield.

I don’t think much is changing for Westfield as it will for Western.
