Hope others are doing the same.
I have heard the same thing from a few BSC families. Some families have 3 kids, so they would be out $10k in the likely scenario that soccer does not take place. Even if soccer comes back in 2021 in some form, that is a lot of money to commit to at a time of uncertainty.

What are other MD-based ECNL clubs doing (Maryland United, Pipeline, etc.)? Is BSC the only club in the area requiring a binding financial commitment now?

MD United already squared away their players with refund/credit amounts, and gave a Jun 1st deadline to respond to accepting a spot on a team. Which makes it even more perplexing as to why BSC is delaying an announcement of refunds/credits, and the rush to respond to offers.

Perplexing = $$$ at the expense of many already strapped parents.

Worse case if no money back, just record the club dues as a charitable donation on your 2020 tax return since BSC is a 501(C)(3) org.

I am not a tax professional, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express recently.

I am a PP who has posted re: being unhappy with the lack of communication from bsc. Especially regarding thoughts for refunds or credits for the fall season before receiving invites. But in all transparency i must say that we decided to sign up again this year. DS has soccer at the top of his list of things that make him happy. His energy is significantly high and although we do daily walks, bike rides and play soccer outside- it doesnt seem to be enough. His screen time has unfortunately increased alot. He fights much more with his sister in the last 2 months and temper tantrums are more than normal. Im a a huge believer that mental health is a big issue in these kids and that they don't know how to properly express or deal with it. He's not old enough to practice for long without games or motivation (ulittle age)..my skills are limited.

At least with bsc they can hopefully do practices this summer or fall. And when the rec leagues shut down over winter , hopefully the kids will be able to do winter practice again..even if no games which my son loved last year. Winter is a long stretch (4 months) and my son told me that he did not want to lose his skills (ha!). Plus we are getting an amazing coach.

Financially we are not rich but have been blessed enough for us to still be working and only had a loss of income for a few weeks but over all good. My other little one cries every day about the virus going away and she wants to get back to swimming. Aside from our mortgages, bills and health, my kids mental health is at the top of my list and if this is what DS enjoys then so be it. But it was a tough decision and i understand that it is a risk.

So basically they have advised no refunds or credits for this spring. Instead they will be providing incentives for next fall. Which have all been states in this thread already and in my opinion are just smoke and mirrors and not actually “incentives”.

$300 instead of $400 due at time of team acceptance. This is nothing. The $100 is just spread over other payments.
No charge for using the payment plan.
No new uniforms for next season.

No mention of what will happen if there is no fall season. Just mention of going virtual again.

It's a huge financial commitment for the Techne Futbol app

People don’t like the BSC plan I think they should not sign up. Pools, camps and sport groups are all trying to survive. This is new and no one was planning for a pandemic. I get wanting a refund if you sign up now and fall does not happen, but I also understand a club needing to survive. So where does that leave us? That leaves us reading what they offer and making a decision. Sign up for rec, skip soccer for a season, or sign up for a club and know the fall may look different than what we are used to or worse case scenario, could be an app again. Also not sure why if falls does not happen that would be their fault. They have to follow the dictated guidance. That makes 0 sense to imply they have any control. They clearly want to open and play. Make a choice given the info we have now or don’t and wait and try and sign up later or just don’t sign up. We bear responsibility here too to be informed and take responsibility for our choices. Spring was something no one could predict but we all know fall is a huge risk. I just can’t fault them for trying to survive just like camps aren’t cancelling hanging on to hope that they can open in some form in July and August.

whos saying its in their control? lol. Not a single person.

But to completely ignore the possibilities is bad business. Give reassurances that those that have PAID FOR A SERVICE will get that service.

Paying 3k for league play, tournaments, weekly training ett= when there is no league play, tournaments and weekly training how do you expect to still pay 3k for that?

What possible reassurance could any club reasonably give?

Just got their email. I dont really see anything different that what was stated in the offer letter.. let me know if I missed something.

I dont think people are faulting them for what has occurred, there just doesn't seem to be really any shared responsibility. And not for spring, but even moving forward for those paying for fall. Not even a mention of a 10% credit if fall doesn't occur- which is minimal but would go a long way to show families they are trying. Families are also taking a risk- you realize if families don't sign up, this will also decrease their chances of surviving. Some families re enrolling is their way of showing their support and effort to help them continue as a club.
