"Virginia Tech has a deep commitment to respect all individuals and to value human diversity. We articulate that commitment in our Principles of Community.

Stating one’s gender pronoun is a personal decision. No one in the Virginia Tech community is required to do so."

Penny Nance's editorial was published on the Federalist website:
"My Son’s Freshman Orientation At Virginia Tech Was Full Of Leftist Propaganda
Now that I have witnessed college propaganda firsthand, I refuse to ignore the indefensible and discriminatory behavior of the liberal campus bullies anymore."

And later: "First, send screen shots, video, or your story to Concerned Women for America at UniversityWhistleBlower@CWFA.org. We won’t disclose your name without permission, but we will tell your story."

The woman is on a mission.

Concerned Women for America, in their "who we are" website section, states:

"Concerned Women for America (CWA) is the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization with a rich history of over 35 years of helping our members across the country bring Biblical principles into all levels of public policy. "

Let me repeat: "bring Biblical principles into all levels of public policy"

They have a right to push for that, just like Atheists have a right to push Atheism. It’s America

Separation of Church and State was a founding principal of the USA.

Ignorant nonsense. The U. S didn’t have a state Church because there were many Protestant denominations. It was meant to protect the churches. We had prayer and Bible reading in public schools until the 1960s

Wake up, dear. Even the 1960s were a long time ago.

Ah...if only America could go back to the way it was! When it was God-fearing; when God's love and will reigned from sea to shining sea; when people owned other people and women didn't have the vote!

You just captured the spirit of “MAGA”.

The place of women is primarily ascwives and mothers. Husbands represent the family unit sobwomen don’t need the vote.

People own other people today. Look at how large corporations treat employees

So... I'm not ever allowed to quit and find something else to do, and the large corporation can sell me and members of my family to whoever they feel like, without me having a say? Got it. Totally the same as slavery!!

You can quit and work for another large corporation. They work people like dogs and pay them low wages while their CEOs make millions/billions.

Many slaves in the South probably lived happier lives than Amazon employees

There’s just a slight difference-the Amazon employee can leave at anytime. Are you really that stupid?

That is incredibly offensive regardless of your policial or ideological views. I really urge you to educate yourself about American slavery.

Them Dark Days is meticulously researched and devastating

Many Thousands Gone is a good overview

Read anything by Fredrick Douglass and he will explain why you are wrong.

Your welcome!

I suggest you take a look at this website and educate yourself

Have you lost your mind? I can quit and work for a small business. I can quit and work for a mid-size nonprofit. I can quit and start a business. I can quit and live off savings. I can quit whenever I want! No corporation is going to whip me, starve me, brand me, separate me from my husband, or take my small children away from me.

I can't believe people actually buy into the "happy slave" rhetoric.

That’s not even what this thread is about.

While most colleges have this stuff on their website, I have great doubr that most professors will give a damn if you don’t use someone’s pronouns

It doesn't make any sense for people who identify as their actual gender to be compelled to play along to make those who don't identify that way feel included. We can teach inclusion and empathy towards transgender individuals without the false virtue signaling by those for whom the differences don't apply.

No one said otherwise. If you don’t want to share your pronouns, don’t. It’s optional.

I agree that it should never be mandatory.

Even if it is optional, why are people who follow gender norms hopping on board? That's my question. It looks like virtue signaling.

The rest of us call it accepting and respecting people who are different from us. But I see why you don’t understand the concept.

Why do you say you can see why I don’t understand? Is it impermissible to simply disagree? And if people who are different from us don’t use the typical pronouns, why is it necessary to suggest we may not either (in solidarity) only to say, actually I do. I don’t need to play along in order to respect people’s differences. I can simply respect them, without feeling the need to signal that I do. That feels a bit disrespectful, like you’re saying “I’m just like you (even though I’m actually not.) It minimizes their plight.

Because PP is an a-hole. That’s really what it comes down to.

Wait. I am an asshole for thinking it sounds a bit contrived for someone who uses the expected or typical gender pronouns to state so? Why are you so angry?
Anonymous
DP, not angry just feel sorry for you and feel even more sorry for your kid.

If you kid wants to seek out schools that don't do this, they (see what I did there) can do the research. However, if you want to avoid raising a snowflake, you might want to encourage your kid to seek out the college or university with the strongest program in their intended major for the best price.

But OP--ya know, the one who fails to see that *not every set of parents pays for college for every student*--seems to think that parents writing tuition checks = parents control where you go, what you study, etc., etc.

So, basically OP doesn't see any problem with tightly holding those purse strings and securing those apron strings. I am so glad that my parents, who did pay for my college, respected me as an adult and trusted me to make good choices FOR MY LIFE AND FUTURE.

PP, can you promise me that if your child wants to attend Hillsdale or Baylor, you'll pay for it?

I thought about reporting this post, but I wanted everyone on DCUM to see the trash that some poster are trying to pass off as legitimate history. If you sign up for the mailing list at the site above, you get a free e-book called "Emancipation Hell: The Tragedy Wrought by Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation". People like the pp exist and they are trying to convince us that they have a legitimate place in American society.

Intersex people constitute approximately 1.7% of the population. That would have been ~40 kids in my high school alone. They're not nearly as rare as you think they are, most of them just "pass".

That's not to say only intersex people should be allowed to use different pronouns - just dispelling the myth that they are so rare that you'll ever know one. You might not KNOW you know one, but you do.

What a waste of time and resources.

I don't mind using a novel pronoun for someone who is truly intersex, but I acknowledge most of the world as binary.

Thank you.

I agree with you, OP!

Most intersex people identify as one gender and use the pronouns associated with that gender.
