demoralized in MCPS

The big one they hate is the wide spread inflation of grades that DC and Pg already got busted for. mcps is adjacent and all the teachers know that inflation will give admin the numbers they want to look good. How did they not get busted is beyond me.

What are you talking about? MCEA has been fighting against grade inflation and I can think of several cases in which it defended teachers who spoke out publicly against grade inflation, especially the grade scale (A+D= B).

Why not just share your story since you obviously have a huge chip on your shoulder? Otherwise, your posts are tiresome and distracting from very real issues in MCPS.

Lack of structure and rules leads to the regular violence even rape. I guess teachers are reaching a tipping point and no longer want to cover up for administrative overlords. Ignoring these travesties does not help the problem. You sound like a parent and as an educator i believe open/ retaliation free reporting is essential to gaining respect again for education in America.

Btw many teachers raise these issues everyday. Why do people equate opening their mouths to fear of being fired. Its retaliation and bullying plain and simple.

Inflation grading makes the news. Violence makes the news. Why MCPS/MCEA ignores real dilemmas is intriguing.

I don’t think you have ever attended a single MCEA meeting. You don’t have to be a building rep or EFR to attend. I’m going to personally invite you to attend the next one and then let’s discuss here.

Same is true for students who come forward to report problems to MCPS. Bullying, intimidation, and retaliation is common practice in MCPS towards anyone who has a complaint.

MCEA standing up against inflation. The only way they will stand up against inflation is blaming teachers and disregarding the administrative pressure/retaliation dynamic.

Do you actually know anyone active in MCEA? You sound like someone who is greatly out of touch with what the union does. I have taught for MCPS for almost 20 years and have never encountered any form of the teachers’ union blaming teachers for grade inflation. Can you provide any documentation to back up this claim? Evidence would be a requirement if you were a student submitting this assertion as a writing assignment. Please be at least as responsible as a sixth grader.

If you know any teacher ask them how many have been bullied by admin or canned through retaliation. Then look at how many admin get promoted after doing a poor job that leads to rape, or drink and drive over and over again and blame authorities or play the race card, etc. Mcps is backward and I think you know exactly what I'm referring to. Don't play dumb.

I know what the union does -cans good people and defends a machine ran on immorality spinning it to all look like rainbows and progress.

Ours are just entering MCPS, and I plan to get more involved in school issues as I see MCPS just being grossly mismanaged. I know I'll be out their campaiging at the next BoE election for anyone who is not an incumbent.

I'm surprised MCEA is unable to do anything. They've been notorious for securing great benefits packages for teachers -- better than any other county employees -- so why can't they step in to protect their members?

Even MCPS HR will agree that teachers can’t trust mcea. If you’re a crap teacher who’s being investigated, they’ll go to bat for you, but they do nothing for the hard working teachers looking for better working conditions. And they don’t protect confidentiality even though theiy are supposedly on our side. If I ever was in a situation where I needed mcea, I’d hire my own legal representation.

I just dont' get it. Why does MCEA go to bat for the few bad apples, instead of going to bat for the majority of their members -- the good teachers. Don't the teachers elect the management of MCEA? Are they electing incompetent people?

I'm not a teacher.. just really seems sad that the union they pay for isn't doing anything...

I am guessing that the children with these behavior issues have disabilities and therefore are covered under the ADA, or it has something to do with closing the learning gap.

Totally agree.

OP here. Same story, new year. Teachers at my school are walking around like it's already April. We're all exhausted already and we're 6 weeks into the school year. Many of our paras have already been pulled to be unofficial one on ones for students who frequently elope, and rooms have had to be cleared multiple times already. We've had a few teachers (one is pregnant) injured by students who have thrown things at them or scratched and bit them. This really may have to be my last year.
