This Is Us. Season 3

God I hope Kate has a baby!! I don’t think I could take much more of this show if she has another reason to pity herself.

I'm sort of bitter that they wrote her getting pregnant on the first try. So many people view infertility as the couple not trying hard enough and IVF being a magic cure for those who "do it right."

So who is the Vietnamese woman with the necklace at the very end? Is there a half sibling or cousin Pearson out there and she’s the mom?

I just wish Kate had chosen to have weight loss surgery before any baby plans. I can't think of anything but how heavy she is in every scene with her. It's incredibly distracting.

I was heartbroken watching Toby trying to cope with his depression, as I've been there before. It looks like Beth might be suffering from depression now as well.

I think the Vietnamese woman that Jack was involved with dies. Or maybe she does have his baby, but he was never aware of it.

I am supremely sick of Randall always trying to save the day. If the residents of that town aren't interested in improving their lives, then he needs to move on and stop trying to insert himself. Get a job.

I love Kevin. He always, always makes me laugh. Actually so does Randall, when he's not being super earnest and in do-gooder mode. Beth too - very funny.

Maybe I grew up in a bubble, but it's hard to believe that in the mid 1990s in an east coast city, someone would have such an obvious reaction to a white girl dating a black boy. Not liking it or being surprised, sure, but the people I knew would have been better at keeping that to themselves.

I think you grew up in a bubble. Spike Lee's Jungle Love was about an interracial romance, the backlash/discrimination the couple encounters, in NYC in the 1990s.

I think you mean the movie Jungle Fever. Jungle Love is an awesome 80's song that is impossible not to dance to when it comes on.

Wouldn't Randall have to prove actual residency like tax returns and state registered to vote versus just using someone's else's address? That's fraud and very easy to prove that he and his family never lived there. It's a fictitious show, but there is fiction and downright ludicrous.

How would that even work, though? The actress has said she does not want WLS. You can't have a character get it and the actress playing her NOT rapidly lose weight. I don't watch every week but keep up on what's happening from the recaps and from the episodes I have seen so far this year, she's looking smaller. I think she's actively losing on her own, but again, you don't go from morbidly obese (I'm guessing she weighs around 320-350) to simply fat that fast.

I think now that she has money she has the resources to help her on her journey, but it will still probably take her 2-5 years to even lose 100 pounds without any surgery or meds involved.

She’s enormous. Can’t believe she’s any less than 450-500 pounds.

Also, the OJ trial stirred up a lot of race issues in the mid-90’s.

Beth breaking down in her interview choked me up. I like Beth. It never thought the actress had much depth until now.

I lived in Pittsburgh (where the Pearsons lived) in the early ‘90s. Interracial dating was not common outside of the universities. Even on campuses, there were many incidents of outright racism and even violence against mixed couples walking through South and North Oakland. A friend grew up just outside of Pittsburgh and upon visiting her family for Easter Sunday, her grandfather informed me that I was the first “colored” to ever set foot in the house, but I “looked clean” and if I didn’t steal, he was fine with it, being a holiday. My friend was mortified, but her family seemed to think that it went better than they expected. This was 1991.

She is definitely not “smaller.” If anything, she looks larger than before.

Not sure how much she weighs, but she looks not quite as round as she did in the first couple seasons. What is annoying is that her weight loss journey was central in season 1, which was good because it resonates with people who struggle and was somewhat realistic, but since nothing worked her weight issues have pretty much been dropped and everyone tip toes around it and when any character brings it up they're just being mean. It's not mean. The actress could be candidate for 600 pound life and the Kate character refuses to deal with it.

She’s really short, though, so probably not as heavy as you think. She does look smaller to me. I hope so. I’m rooting for her.

I have a belief that in order to maintain a weight like Kate's you have to eat a lot -- like a whole tub of ice cream or a whole box of donuts everyday (in addition to your meals). You can't stay that weight if you are eating somewhat normal portions.

Am I wrong?

If your thyroid was really messed up, you could get that fat even without eating like that. But then you should go to an endocrinologist and get it taken care of.
