This is not even an AAP issue. If anything it is a political issue. If you want to solve something stop hiding under anonymity and do something tangible.

Yes, it's a done deal. All people can do now is watch Jackson decline and laugh when FCPS acts surprised in a few years that Thoreau is ridiculously overcrowded.

Here's a detailed article on why Dalia Palchik ran. I would love to know how she feels this decision fits into her overall goals as a school board member.

It is an AAP issue because the AAP program was holding Jackson up higher than its high school and I feel now it will decline. The reason for this thread going so long is not because of a lot of repetition, but because the discussion ran deeply and covered a lot of ground. There was little to no name calling. Much more ground than was covered by FCPS. People like myself have made comments publicly, but we are not in charge and speaking for myself, no one in FCPS agreed to take on any of my questions and they outright dismissed some comments. I spoke publicly and was ignored so am just commenting here since I was silenced by FCPS.

Maybe they don't see it as a negative like you do. Maybe they see it as a POSITIVE -- getting 150 kids out of LJ this year and eventually having 300 less than they have now. Maybe they are fine with the education their kids are receiving (even if other kids are struggling with other challenges -- language, economic background). Maybe they have more faith in their kids' ability and faith in the LJ administration and teachers to keep doing what they've been doing all along.

Exactly! Well said.

Well they got their wish then, didn't they.

Whatever it takes to have less kids at LJ I'm all for.

I think that's what the school board's position was as well. It was unanimous. PP who is still grinding the ax... it's time to move on! The kids at LJ have just as much opportunity to succeed as anyone else... and if you feel there is a gap or unmet need, then do something about it! Encourage the admin to have an anti-bullying program or start up a foodbank program. The plan is set. If you think that these kids (at LJ) need extra supports, advocate for that.

Otherwise, it's time to move along and let the people in the LJ community determine what they need and don't need.

Does this affect you? If so, why are you posting about it here? Post it on the va forum, not aap.

It's all illegal immigration. All of it. Stop sticking your privileged liberal heads in the ground and pretending otherwise. Our schools are being disproportionately burdened and only certain taxpayers and homeowners are being penalized. But if illegal immigration were properly addressed this wouldn't even be an issue. Meanwhile, the sheriff of FFX is going to stop cooperating with ICE.

Really you only have yourselves to blame, NOVA.

Good for you. This School Board is absolutely useless. There is no legitimate reason to pay them a dime if all they do is rubber-stamp staff recommendations.

If you "spoke publicly", you weren't "silenced" by FCPS. They disagreed with you for various reasons and went with another plan. Don't make yourself the victim just because your opinion didn't get support.

And you aren’t in the right just because a bunch of lazy-ass School Board members and staff do what is convenient, rather than what is just, simply because they know they can ram it through.

You can't change the past. Focus your efforts on the future. Improve LJ and FCHS. All hope is not lost.

Why should I pay more money for a school going downhill just because some white families wanted to segregate themselves? I was for the integration. It was cheaper for all students, better economically for the county to have neighborhoods that were average and not declining, and better for the disadvantaged students to be around higher performing students. Oakton can only get so much more expensive. It will hurt the county overall, but they can find someone else sympathetic to their new need for their created achievement gap. I am not paying more for their stupidity.

Really disappointed in Keys-Gamarra. We had good candidates for the at-large seat and she convinced people she’d look after minority kids. Instead she just does the bidding of other people in Oakton. She needs to go.
