1. White DCC parents trying to justify sending their kids to the 95% minority Kennedy, 92% Wheaton, 87% minority Northwood, etc.

2. Minority DCC parents who are doing everything they can to defend their school which has average SAT scores lower than the MoCo average (Kennedy, wheaton, Northwood, Einstein, non-magnet Blair). Kennedy Wheaton and Northwood have avg SAT scores lower than the national average so they need even greater defending.

3. Minority parents who would never send their kids to a high SES school because they don't want their children around too many white kids.

4. White parents who are "more evolved" than other whites so they are pushing this diversity thing while sending THEIR kids to private school. Of course, the only reason their child is in private school is because of a learning disability, religion, sports, music, art, etc, etc. Otherwise, it would be wonderful for their child to go to Kennedy.

Does this blow your mind? Wheaton won the Maryland Science Bowl competition this month, beating 47 teams from throughout Maryland. But your kid won't be on that team, because you aim higher than Wheaton.

I don't think anyone disagrees that the small Wheaton magnet program is excellent.

1. It's better for society to mix people together vs tracking. Studies have shown that the high performers still stay high performing and that lower performers have strong benefits from mixing vs tracking

2. Now my point throughout this thread is that I am a realist. As a parent you are going to do what's in the best interest of your child and since this is DCUM and most here are higher SES and higher performing that means seeking out a school that has higher performing children and tracking. Real estate prices bare this out and even then many higher SES parents choose private schools. Diversity is almost never a factor in education decisions.

3. I forget who said it but the only solution I see in this is for people to continue to act in their own best interest and send their kids to the best school possible (that's human nature) and volunteer/donate in schools that serve less well off populations.

And let me say again talking about diversity is not a logical argument. Home values are not higher in more diverse environments they are higher in areas that have higher test scores.

If you go over to the real estate board, you'll see lots of people posting they are looking for a diverse neighborhood and school. It is simply false that no one considers this.

Furthermore, not everyone chooses a house based solely on the school it is zoned to. Many people choose houses for their location, yard, home features, proximity to things they need, etc. and have faith that the school situation will be fine, because it will.

If you think white parents really all maximize the whiteness of the schools their children attend because that's definitively better, how do explain the fact that there are any whites at all at Einstein, Blair, Northwood, etc.? Are they trapped there against their will? Delusional?

The lack of reading comprehension of some of you is truly astounding. Your third sentence is especially ridiculous

I know most parents value higher school quality over diversity and I know school quality drives real estate prices

My position is the same it is logical to want the best for your kid. It is illogical to pursue diversity especially since in many cases higher diversity = lower quality. If those were the choices a higher performing school vs a diverse school I challenge anyone who would honestly pick the more diverse school.

Your reading comprehension sucks if you think the discussion is similar. That thread has its own race baiting trolls, but they are largely ignored. There are more race baiting trolls on this thread and they are saying more outrageous things.

It's sad you go through life seeing everything through race. It really limits your potential. How about working hard instead of always playing the victim card it's really holding you back.

It is sad you go through life without seeing that you are privileged. Or seeing that you are privileged, wearing your privilege as a badge of honor and belittle those who are less fortunate than you.

Will you please shutup with the privilege and other pc bs it's why Trump won and I really want him to lose next time

Schools drive real estate prices to a point. But clearly there are other factors or you wouldn’t be able to pay 450-460 to a fully renovated four bedroom four bathroom home with eat in kitchen open floor plan and giant yard with GS ratings of 9-10 in Howard county. It’s so cheap cause it is far from the city and no wher near metro, where many homes in the DCC command well more than that because of those factors. Commute, public transit, walkability factors in too.

I disagree with your premise 1. Average and above average students can get demoralized and demotivated by having to babysit and sit through boring classes and troublemaker antics. Is an issue in 6th and 7th grade. Can’t wait for 8th grade, maybe it’ll be wonderful...

DP, but no. Trump won because he dog whistled himself right into the Oval Office. Not because anyone else was too PC. If those knuckledraggers weren't also racists, Trump wouldn't have won the R nomination. We won't get those voters back. They're lost forever. But we don't need them anyway as we learned in Alabama.

Can we just be real for a second? Parents who bought in DCC or similar wouldn’t want to go to a W cluster. If we looked for something whiter, it would be in places like Quince Orchard. The W schools have appeal to a certain segment and are repellent to other segments. Ws have a target market but it doesn’t include all UMC whites.

The only reason Trump won was because THE worst person won the democratic ticket. Anyone else would have been him.

I'm afraid we'll need 8 years of Trump for some slow learners to catch up.

How do you want to distribute privilege? And I can only assume also make it so each generation has to start from scratch?

White privilege is simply a higher average IQ and intact family structure. Honestly it should be renamed Asian privilege because Asians in the US do slightly better than whites on almost every objective measure. Oh, and in general they have slightly higher IQs and fewer out of wedlock births. Strange how that works.

Aren't a couple of the W's ranked 4 on GS despite their whiteness? And don't even get me started on the drug culture there...

+1.

Now, since you make a thughtful aND well-informed observation, we can probably infer you have indeed benefited from Asian privilege...and therefore your opinion doesn't count

I'm assuming the OP above is AA (or an "evolved" Caucasian) because Hispanics rarely scream about white privilege and Asians never do. Luckily, while the OP is loud, obnoxious and LOVES the victim card, we are seeing signs of improvement in the black community. I think we all can applaud the fact that the AA unemployment is at an all-time. Obviously, there is a long way to go. But, hard work and personal responsibility is on the rise.
