Don't fly United

At best this is a contractual matter between United and a passenger. Police is not a tool for United. They entered into a civil dispute. I hope the passenger sues both the police and the United. One picture speaks a thousand words. This video speaks volume. Good bye United.

+1. There is absolutely nothing United or their CEO can say to make this situation right or to change my mind about using them in the future. I will not use United - ever. Neither will my clients. It's as simple as that. I'm horrified by the videos I saw today and I'm even more horrified by United CEO's immediate statement. There are other airlines I can use to get me to where I need to go, and even if means paying a higher price, I'm ready to do it if it means not giving United another penny of my money.

The fact the CEO couldn't put together an even barely adequate apology makes your decision completely understandable. They just don't get it.

I'd rather drive than use United. I'm so disturbed by what they did. Like a fucking game of Russian roulette. Where are the passengers rights in this?

What happened is not acceptable.

The airline should either stop overbooking flights or be prepared to offer adequate compensation so a true volunteer can been found.

Omg, this poor man. Very disturbing. I will not fly with them anymore.

We should have a law that when a passanger is bumped they owe the passanger $5,000.00.

Disgusting behavior. Stop overbooking flights in the name of greed, United.

In my experience airlines typically haven't let anyone board the plane until they have enough 'takers' to give up seats (I assume to avoid situations like this).

I think a huge problem with the offer was that the alternate flight was almost 24 hours later. It wasn't later that night or first thing the next morning. It is so ludicrous to expect people to jump up and down for $800, lose a day of work/vacation time which might be more than a cost of $800, when all they want is to go home.

The WaPo article says United started the whole thing with a threat. A supervisor came on board and said the plane wouldn't leave until four people got off. I feel sorry for the crew people who then had to sit on that flight. Clearly, UA treats its employees like sh*t, so no surprise passengers are treated worse.

I can't believe the CEO just got an award from PR Week. Another institution past its usefulness.

Agree 10000%. There wasn't ONE extra flight? Hell, I would've been ok if they had offered me the money and then chartered a car to the next airport.

There needs to be a boycott united campaign...they way he was moved from his seat was disgusting. Excessive force much? That officer needs to be disciplined.

Officer has been suspended. And go check out United's Facebook page. The condemnation is pretty universal. This is going to cost them. The CEO's lame apology isn't helping matters.

You are representative of everything that is wrong with America today.

I'd like to be proven wrong. Just kidding, nobody like's being proven wrong.

His bio should be out shortly I'd imagine.

Um, the whole point was that he was flying home and had patients scheduled for today.

He shouldn't have been flying home on the same day he had appointments, that's really not that responsible. Especially flying during the spring months which can have hell-storm weather leading to delays.

Book smart, but maybe not too street smart.

FFS. It doesn't matter if he was a doctor or a panhandler. He paid for his seat, they seated him on the plane, they don't get to drag him off bodily for no reason. Did you take a wrong turn out of Moscow or Syria? This is not the way we do things here.
