Why is the rest of the world able to report to work in this snow but not teachers?

Businesses stay open to make money, so their employees have to try to make it to work, but what makes you think they aren’t having any trouble getting there? Schools are also different because places of employment that draw 1000+ employees daily don’t usually have a high percentage of walkers (sidewalks are untreated) nor a bunch of inexperienced drivers.

Plenty of schools outside the DMV would never dream of delaying over today's weather. You need some perspective.

At least one on University at 495 (was heading to Blair). Crash call over dispatch at 7:27, if you have access to a scanner.

Looks like it’s getting nasty out there a portion of 270 around Montrose is shut down due to multiple collisions

lol. That video just shows the roads are fine. It's the people that are the problem. Delays don't fix people.

Delays keep students off the roads during peak morning travel, when the streets are filled with their maximum of bad drivers.

As a society, we've become incapable of dealing with difficulty or solving problems. And we're certainly not good at cooperating with each other for the common good. We'd rather wait it out in our homes, or let the government take care of it when they get around to it.

NH was icy from Silver Spring to Cloverly. I drove past four accidents. There is ice under this dusting of snow for sure. Be careful!!

A lot of accidents being reported by Mr Piringer. Two hour delay for rain but no change for legit snow and ice………….. an “educated” decision?

Look at his post history. Accidents happen without snow, too.

What a moronic response. We arent talking about drunk drivers we are talking about children being pit in harms way by the school

Why are kids in Maryland unable to go to school in precipitation, but kids in New England and the Midwest do so all the time? We have the same salt trucks they do. What’s the difference?

You need to take your own advice. Plenty of places outside the DMV have cold weather infrastructure we continue to refuse to pay for here. This is the result, and a more informed perspective would understand this. We're not in Minnesota, sweetie.

I think MCPS has created a perception that school is incompatible with any precipitation, which is crazy. We live in an area where light snow is not unusual. It should not require us all to bunker down in our homes. Good call MCPS!

Totally agree. Also the realtime weather map indicates that this is the rare snow where it appears just as “heavy” or heavier downcounty. It is a dusting. Think the tales of “inches” purely apocryphal.

This was to keep a football game going. A delay would have forced a closure and the game off. You should be mad.

No, we actually very much do not. We don't want to pay to have proper salt trucks, plows etc. available. We only pull ours out for the "big heavy" storms, and it's near-always insufficient. We gather to complain about this every. single. winter.

You must be new here.

You think accidents only happen from snow and drunk drivers?

The other thing to keep in mind is that accidents involving snow tend to happen at slower speeds, so the risk of serious injury is lower than in other accidents.
