FCPS NEW SUPERINTENDENT : Michelle Reid

Anonymous
Well...god BLESS Dr. Reid! She's gonna need all the help she can get to deal with this crowd and the school board.

I can certainly give her the benefit of the doubt.

It's kind of funny that the NAACP and Board members Anderson and KeyesGamarra think Dr Reid is not sufficiently "woke" (or not sufficiently Black), and others are complaining that she's too wrapped up in equity policies.

Perhaps neither side of her critics know who she really is! Give the woman a chance, and hope for her to do a good job.

I noticed Dr Brabrand was looking pretty happy at the Board meeting. I don't remember seeing him so happy. I also noticed that several Black Board members refused to stand for Dr Reid when everyone else stood. Disrespectful? For sure. If the new superintendent was Black, and two white Board members refused to stand, I bet it'd be front page news.

I do not know why Dr Reid would take this job, but I hope she's up to the task. At least she has experience as a parent, teacher, principal and superintendent. That's a decent start.

You freaks need to get a new hobby. This is getting so old. The white supremicist takeover of DCUM has me ready to go. Sorry Jeff, used to love this site, but ever since you let these psychos take over the FCPS and the political forum, I'm just done.

You must read a different DCUM then I do.

Not sure about the white supremacy but yeah the pandemic and school closures galvanized the right wingers who saw the frustration re: school closures as an opportunity to just go down a crazy rabbit hole of the SB is evil, CRT is taking over, the “libs” ruined FCPS, etc. It’s tiring.

Yes, many. You can watch the recording if you didn’t watch.

Or you can just repeat the word “equity” over and over. No mention of academic excellence, sadly.

Actually there was with a specific mention of STEM, arts and rigor.

My kids started innFCPS in 2006. We have 28 days left (less with seniors not needing to show if they don’t have a final).

THANK GOD.

+1 They ruined this forum. I used to come here for helpful information, now it's just the same people complaining about the same stuff. It's old, it's boring, it's not helpful.

You’re nuts.

They used to be able to pick new superintendents unanimously, make brief statements about why they thought the new superintendent was a good appointment, give the person a chance to speak in “prime time,” and then move on to their other business.

Now we have a bunch of clowns who drag things out for hours because they sre so upset some other (Black) candidate didn’t get picked or because they are deathly afraid they’ll be tagged as racist Karens because they decided a White woman was a better candidate. They can’t unite behind a new leader and the poor woman has to sit there being semi-humiliated before she finally gets a chance to speak (at which time she has to improvise some remarks to assure the SB she’ll be laser-focused on the needs of “marginalized communities.” And then all their other Board business will probably drag on until well after midnight, if it gets addressed at all, just underscoring for the new superintendent how incredibly inefficient FCPS is.

If you don’t see how things keep heading south, you’re really not paying attention.

https://www.fcps.edu/onefairfax

The School Board obligated itself to view everything via an equity lens. "One Fairfax is a joint racial and social equity policy of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and School Board. It commits the county and schools to intentionally consider equity when making policies or delivering programs and services."

I don't think that has anything to do with white supremacism on DCUM.

Seems a bit defensive. Maybe that’s what happens when you have folks crowing about the “equity lens” through which they claim to view everything and still ending up getting trashed because they aren’t a minority candidate. Maybe it pollutes education when the left eats its own?

I think we need to give Dr. Reid a chance. Or maybe one of you can step in to this thankless job.

Wait - on page 1 of this thread it says this was the naacp choice.

Did they change their mind?

Did not go back to page one, but no, the NAACP was against Reid as was the Fairfax Association of Black School Educators. They complained about the process overall, but said they backed the other id'd candidate, Logan.

That makes me want to give her a chance
