Interesting that the clubs are combining for this. Guaranteed that NL uses this process for the 13u team to try to convince as many 13U Black ops players stay together on a reconstituted NL 2026 team for next year given how aggressive NL has been in turning over its 2024 and 2025 teams. If I were VLC 2026, I’d be a little wary of partnering with NL.
All three programs are risking loss of players to the other two. It is an easy way for the better players on all three teams to meet other families and get a line on how their son would fit on the other two rosters. The programs probably have a handshake deal that they will not use Black Ops as a means to recruit each other's players, but if a player decides he prefers to make a change, I don't see how the losing team can stop him.
Agree, I think that's why they're going with a coach unaffiliated with any of the programs. Saw a comment earlier that looks like it's since been removed/deleted that implied that the coaches would come from one of the DC privates.
It is expected that the coaches are coming from Gonzaga. The unknown is whether it will be varsity HC Casey O'Neill or somebody else from within the program. If it is Casey, that is a pretty cool opportunity for 7th graders. In terms of recruiting, at this age it is done more by parents than coaches. There will be interesting sideline conversations as the parents on the three teams get to know each other and compare the pros and cons of their programs.
Gonzaga coaching is depending on the COViD situation. The school may or may not allow participation. Hopefully it will be cleared up by July.
