Schools for Engineering major

Problem is, a lot of their original schools don’t have good engineering programs. Based on his stats and old list of schools, could you suggest new schools

Stats:
SAT: 1550
GPA: 3.9 UW/4.32 W
8 AP Classes (5 5s and 3 4s)
Good ECs

Original List of Schools

WUSTL
NYU
Boston U
University of Chicago

College of William & Mary
Grinnell College
UVA
UC Davis

Binghamton
Stony Brook U

Thanks!

My kid had almost exactly the same stats and is studying chemical engineering. His list was: Penn (big reach), UIUC, WUSTL, Vanderbilt, Rice, Emory, Purdue, Arizona State (safety), Missouri University of Science and Technology (safety)

+1, DD graduated CS last year from UVA, got 6-7 offers over 100k. DS graduating this year with 2 offers so far and has already accepted one, both also over 100k

Doesn’t ring true.

WPI is a very underrated engineering school.

I know Harvard CS grad this year having a tough time with securing full time employment so I think uva boosters should give it a rest.

Why would anybody go to Harvard and study CS?

Nephew loved Rose-Hulman in Indiana. He and his friends have amazing jobs with also excellent grad school opportunities. It seems like he was doing a lot of hands on from day 1 which is why he chose it.

This. Some idiot keeps bashing on UVA's engineering but my DD started there in aerospace engineering. It's a fantastic program taught by a woman astronaut. And, yes, DD DID change majors so thank heavens she didn't go to a Va Tech, Purdue or Ga Tech.

BTW, you can always move from UVA engineering to Va Tech or other tech schools if your grades are good but you can't go the other way around. If there is any doubt about your child's seletion of major, try for UVA. Also, Va Tech weeds out the first year.

Not sure why this is so hard to believe, though I was worried about it with the pandemic going on about our kids' prospects. However, apparently the big tech companies are doing fine during the pandemic and are still hiring like crazy. Not sure what else I can say to convince you I'm telling the truth.

This. I am an engineer, hire a ton of new engineers and have managed over 100 engineers. The smartest group by far, including those that I have hired from MIT (MIT grads have serious issues when they get into the real world), graduated from WPI. Second group of really smart engineers seem to come from Syracuse.

+1

I'll add RPI to the list (if it hasn't already been discussed).

Physics = theoretical

Mechanical engineering = practical
