permission for > 50 people?

Yes, provided space allowed for it.

I believe the county told GC if they called they would have helped them work it out.

They blew it.

GC also had an indoor Prom in Howard County.

If they made an example of GC, it’s GC’s fault and the fault of the other schools who also disregarded public health rules. This is an issue at schools that hope to open. Families will not follow rules, especially if school shows they don’t care either.

If the rule is no more than fifty people at a gathering, how so the county working it out for these other schools? No one should be allowed to have more then 50 people.

They didn't know about it. They work on tips .. people reporting it.

Did not know this.

There are exceptions the county has made for religious services and weddings; however, those require larger space allotments.

Are privates allowed to open if they follow recommendations?

Yes. The county has no jurisdiction on whether privates can or cannot open. Only the state.

Not even the county health department?

Yes, the county has a say in whether private schools open. Our HOS in Bethesda said he is planning to open but it’s contingent on state and local authorities. The Governor has said he won’t interfere so it will come down to whether the County prohibits schools from opening.

I’ve noticed that the more traditionalist Catholics are disregarding Social distancing rules. They are going to church, planning on opening their schools, having parties without masks, etc.

I think part of it is a “god is more important than earthly rules or disease” thing. But maybe also social signaling about what team you are on.

I've also noticed this - in general with the religious schools. I wonder if its because they are run by the archdiocese and since they want churches open, they'd want schools open too.

Oh my way to call out a single religious group. Could you do this with Jewish or Muslim groups?

And by the way, I know many Catholics who follow every rule and many prominent Catholics on social media who push all the rules.

There is only one high school run by the Archdiocese - John Carroll.

It's because they are Trump supporters and they listen to FOX news and Info Wars and believe conspiracy theories.

I am friends with them on Facebook and the ignorance they post is astounding.
