I think part of it is a “god is more important than earthly rules or disease” thing. But maybe also social signaling about what team you are on.

I've also noticed this - in general with the religious schools. I wonder if its because they are run by the archdiocese and since they want churches open, they'd want schools open too.

Oh my way to call out a single religious group. Could you do this with Jewish or Muslim groups?

And by the way, I know many Catholics who follow every rule and many prominent Catholics on social media who push all the rules.

You know many? or most?

You know it is just many... not most.

Also, it's not just Catholics... it's all Christians.

If Muslims or Jewish people are congregating the way Catholics are ... yes you can call them out.

Is there a cricket tournament that was packed?

To be fair, the Mayor of NYC was singling out Jewish services. Mayor received a lot of backlash, as he should.

He was calling out a 2,500 person gathering for a funeral at the peak of the pandemic in NYC when gatherings of 10+ were prohibited. The backlash was from people who did not understand what was going on.

The whole damn problem with this country, and with this county, is people unwilling to mind their own damn business.

Some miserable, jealous person actually called the health dept to dime out GC. Same person was calling the cops in HS because they weren’t invited to the cool kid party.

Or alternatively, the same people who thought laws didn’t apply to them in high school now think laws don’t apply to their kids’ graduations.

Was the graduation going to be indoors or outdoors?

Outdoors

St Albans is having an indoor graduation at the Cathedral.
Parents can’t come in but all 70 seniors as well as faculty will be inside. I thought the District capped indoor gatherings at 50 people?

Right? Which part of "no gatherings of more than 50 people" did they think didn't apply to them?

Like most other discussions this thread cannot distinguish essential from non essential. No one is entitled to a graduation and the students will have to get over it. I put it in the category of in person dining. Finding a way to have in person instruction is way more important.

I am laughing g at the thought of everyone “shitting” down the SAT., funny

To be fair, how were they going to have 300 graduates and 600 parents distanced in an open area? That's a ton of people! The other schools mentioned aren't nearly as large or broke themselves into smaller groups.

Shouldn’t matter how much over the limit they are. Those other schools got away with it and flaunt their privilege posting the videos all over social media. They endangered not only their own communities, but they risked slowing down the recovery of the entire county.

+1

The rest of us don't feel like staying in lockdown longer just because some rich parents couldn't stand the thought of not having graduation.
