Right there with you OP!

Great first step in posting!

What's working for me right now:

1. WW blue plan, digital plus coaching subscription, great online community with sub-groups. I pay extra to get one on one coaching sessions - very helpful

3. IF - eating in an 8 hour window every day. It's been very effective to stabilizing blood sugar, controlling cravings.

3. Beck Diet Solution book - 42 day/step plan to work on the mental aspect. The book really speaks to me.

Good luck!

I'm not at all fit. A healthy bmi (and I know it's a load of crock) has my high end at 150. I'd like to be 180 before we start ttc again.
I started to notice a dark ring around my neck. And it's probably early sign of pre Diab. Great.

I need to to do this. Posting for accountability? Support?

Literally was having this conversation over the weekend. I'm 5'10" 245, about 20 lbs heavier than I was when I got pregnant with DD a few years ago. I lost weight to ttc back then, and I had started at 270, so I know it's possible.

I don't even look at BMI charts, those are my middle school weights lol But I'm with you on the lose weight, get healthy journey! Being older and know how much pregnancy/post partum takes out of you, I have to start in a good place. I'd like to try and lose 20-30 lbs this year and maybe ttc in the beginning of next year.

We can do this OP!

Make a list of things you can do when you get a craving: take a walk, paint your nails, fold some laundry, do a puzzle. I like to walk the dog, but you may not have one of those!

Have things in the house that you CAN snack on when you're legitimately hungry between meals. Baby carrots, cut up cukes and celery in the fridge (a little hummus ok too). Even a baby bel cheese with some veggies is better than chips or a pile of cake/cookies.

Sometimes it is easy to drink a lot of your calories. Are you drinking sweetened beverages? Start to dilute them with water or alternate with water. Or a lot of alcohol? DH always jump starts his weight loss by only drinking on the weekends.

Good for you for getting yourself going on this project! Definitely get out an walk. Treat yourself to some good shoes, socks and cute workout clothes. You deserve them and they make getting out in the heat worthwhile!

Can you do weight watchers? Good luck!

This is one of the great mistakes. Diet is 98% of weight loss. Fitness is 2%. Working out burns very few calories. Obviously, it’s great for health and strength, but it’s NOT going to help you lose weight.

Try this - it’s all doable: No snacking after dinner. No snacking during the day. No soda ever. No chips. No French fries. Avoid refined foods. No deserts.

Here’s where I’ll get criticized - skip breakfast every day. Just eat lunch and dinner.

Make all this a routine and you should be all good.

Eat good healthy foods! Fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, eggs, whole grains.

I am 10 lbs overweight, but I do concur with this poster, except I skip lunch which is what has gotten me down from 20lbs overweight that I got to with quarantine. But OP, first, you can do it! Don't do something unsustainable. Think about 1 new habit -- stopping snacking after dinner. Try that for two weeks.

then pick up one more. you *can* do this. We are rooting for you! Please post tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a new day: I'm going to track everything and do some strength exercises. What will you do?

Just checking in. How did today go, OP?

I've been on and off weight watchers over the years. I love the app. They have a section like facebook where people can post things. I am amazed at some of the transformations. Others give encouragement. Honestly, I didn't have a lot to lose, but I love that people are so supportive.

Regular, recommended levels of exercise contribute more like 20% of weight loss if someone is eating healthy.

Eating less isn’t sufficient especially if you are considerably overweight because your metabolism just slows down accordingly with fewer calories.

Joining weight watchers is helpful for support and learning things like portion sizes.

If you are trying to start a family, I don’t recommend diets that can’t be followed by everyone. meal planning is important, a cookbook like this for example can be helpful:

With physical activity, start small. Maybe in the morning or evening (when the temperature is cooler) walk around your block.

Small steps and build.

I mean, I know about calories and healthy fats and nutrition and walking and swimming and whatnot, but it goes out the window when I am sad, anxious, mad. Seeing a therapist. Good luck everyone.

Good for you for working with a therapist. We can tell OP a million "tips" and diet plans, but the truth is you need to figure out why you are eating in the first place and work on that.

OP you need to work on your relationship with food and figure out why you are overeating. I also recommend setting a realistic moderate calorie deficit. A large deficit will help you lose the weight faster, but it is also less sustainable, tends to lead to deprivation and cause you to binge.

This is absolutely not true. Weigh is lost through a calorie deficit. Eat less, lose weight. Exercise is great for cardiovascular health and strength training will allows you to lose less muscle mass as you lose weight, but it is not necessary for weight loss. Your metabolism does not change if you eat fewer calories. As you lose weight your body will require fewer calories, but that is because you don't need as many calories to maintain say 150 lbs as you do to maintain 200 lbs not because eating fewer messed up your metabolism.

It is good to be realistic and know where you are and need to be, but do not call yourself names... Love what you have and take care of it. For you, for the baby in the future!
If you are seeing a dark ring you may be showing signs of insulin resistance. Ask your doctor to check you A1C, read about Keto/low carb style of living. Read the Diabetes Code by Jason Fung. You can do this! You go girl!!!
