I am 5'5 230 pounds. Things are hard. I'm not strong. I get out of breath easily. Simple things like going from laying to standing make me feel like a beached whale. I'm not at all fit. A healthy bmi (and I know it's a load of crock) has my high end at 150. I'd like to be 180 before we start ttc again.
I started to notice a dark ring around my neck. And it's probably early sign of pre Diab. Great. I need to to do this. Posting for accountability? Support? |
| Start tomorrow and don't feel guilty about falling off at first...it takes 2 weeks to start new habits. Tomorrow you walk a mile...doesn't matter how long it takes you, walk a mile. Download myfitness pal or another calorie tracking app and follow your food intake. Depending on how fast you want to ttc you could try keto and 50 lbs could be gone in 6 months if you stick wiith it...but diet (i.e. less calories and better food) and exercise (start with walking to get your cardiovascular system back into decent resting shape then work your way up from there to something like HIIT) are better long term. Best of luck! |

I follow a woman on Instagram who lost 120 lbs in about a year and a half. I follow her for her running evolution, but she posts about weight loss, healthy eating, exercise and general musings. She may have started her IG ahead of where you are fitness wise, but she was almost 50 when she started, so that may offset some of that head start.
She goes by c2goal. If you go back to her earliest posts she was dealing with a lot of excess weight. Good luck! |
| As things open up, if you can afford it, invest in a personal trainer |

We will support you OP! It is hard to lose a lot of weight so it might help to break it down into much smaller goals. Also, regarding walking, I think a mile at this point will be difficult and it will be tempting to give up. Start small!
The dark ring around your neck might be something called Africans Negrican and it can be a sign of diabetes. Have you had your A1-C tested? I was shorter (still am!) than you and was far heavier. You have a wonderful goal so hopefully that will help when temptation sets in. Are there any difficulties we might be able to help you overcome? Are you a stress eater, a snacker, a sweets person? |

Get a Mediterranean cookbook and learn how to cook healthier.
Don’t do any crazy fad diets that are impossible to sustain. Do you have a supportive partner? It’s hard to get fit or eat better when you are living with those who don’t share the same goals. |
|
I'll do it with you, OP. I want to TTC again this year and I need to lose 35 lbs. I track calories in LoseIt but I've gotten lazy about it.
Tomorrow is a new day: I'm going to track everything and do some strength exercises. What will you do? - Rose |
Me 3! |
Not OP, but I am all of these. What do you suggest? (Sorry to butt in, OP) |

You are likely diabetic. That, with your BMI and reduced functioning in ADLs will help you qualify for bariatric surgery reimbursed by insurance.
Are you considering bariatric surgery? |
I did this after giving birth to my first and what a waste of time and money. You don't need a professional to teach you how to burn calories/gain muscle. But you might need a professional for whatever is causing you to overeat. |
This is one of the great mistakes. Diet is 98% of weight loss. Fitness is 2%. Working out burns very few calories. Obviously, it’s great for health and strength, but it’s NOT going to help you lose weight. Try this - it’s all doable: No snacking after dinner. No snacking during the day. No soda ever. No chips. No French fries. Avoid refined foods. No deserts. Here’s where I’ll get criticized - skip breakfast every day. Just eat lunch and dinner. Make all this a routine and you should be all good. Eat good healthy foods! Fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, eggs, whole grains. |

Set a menu for yourself, including snacks
Eat things like eggs with cheese for breakfast Include something like a candy bar once a day Don’t buy a box, if you are like me, you will binge Do not set yourself up for binging Start with something realistic and focus on lower carb. |
Am I wrong to think that’s a big first step? I did this - lost 50 pounds before having my first kid. It’s not easy, but doable. I did weight watchers at the time (this was 10-12 years ago). Took months to take it off and kept it off for about another year before getting pregnant. Getting back to it is the hard part for me. |
| Are you me? I have put off having a second child for multiple years because I don't want to have a child until I lose 50 pounds. |
