What does a youth soccer coach make per year?

I think the biggest issue here is the disparity between his pay and what the coaches make. The club keeps wages down to "help make it more affordable for kids to play" but somehow finds $300k for one person.

That being said, welcome to corporate America.

This is 100% spot on. They tell their coaches that they can't pay them market rate due to the mission of the club, which is based on giving scholarships to underprivileged kids.

Source: know several coaches at Alexandria and several other coaches who have interviewed there and been fed this narrative.

If they are jerks to other adults, they are jerks to the kids as well

This is laughable and demonstrably false. Obviously neither you nor the previous poster are part of the club. Go back to your SYC/LMVSC boards. We can see your club patches from here. Try being better coaches, parents and players on the field.

This is pretty dumb. Entire business empires are built on treating customers well and employees poorly.

All this banter about justifying this "outlier" is fascinating. The only opinion that matters is that of the IRS. 501c3 can only pay reasonable salaries- defined as market rate. There has been enough evidence on this board to show that this salary is way out of line with the market. It will be interesting when the club is required to claw back any excess salaries from the ED at the inflated interest rates the IRS publishes for these situations...(oh yeah, there are individual fines also)

When you cannot compete, call your lawyers, and if that doesn't work, call the IRS. Nice work.

In what world do you think this club is competitive? They don’t compete in DA or ECNL. I’m sure they are a nice club that is simply being taken to the cleaners by someone..

Doesn't the board have to vote to approve the ED Salary?

I knew soccer was done once it started referring to kids as customers. I about had a heart attack when I heard my kid’s coach use that term. That alone implies a level of politics and appeasement. Developing athletes are not customers. The athlete has to perform or the athlete does not advance or play in the game. The Club that used this term has out of control politics with a “whine the loudest” policy or donate big to affect placement. Youth sports is a business. It’s no longer for the kids or about the kids.

Do soccer coaches receive a bonus or assessed by their club based on a season’s wins and losses ?
