Why? Alexandria seems to be a stable, well-run club with a long-established tradition of excellent coaching, good teams (including the 2007 boys Region I champions last year), and community involvement. They also send lots of players on to DAs.
I've never heard of any drama coming out of Alexandria like you see with other clubs. They don't charge more than other clubs. I don't have a kid at ASA, but if I did, I wouldn't mind the pay of the ED one bit. |
O drama because they are not competitive. Recreational club |
| I can understand directors at high performing clubs making 70-150 maybe up to 200 at MLS level academy. 341 thousand at a lower to mid level club is a lot of money. |
WTF does that even mean? Did you miss the part about the 2007 Region I champions? "Competitive" for most of the numbnuts around here means recruiting big, fast kids who hit puberty early. What club is "competitive" for you? On the boys side, the best clubs are the ones who develop young players who can go on to play in the DA. Alexandria does that as well, or better, than anyone. |
I think the biggest issue here is the disparity between his pay and what the coaches make. The club keeps wages down to "help make it more affordable for kids to play" but somehow finds $300k for one person. That being said, welcome to corporate America. |
12 years ago ? I'm pretty sure the best clubs are the ones that place players in college and beyond, Alexandria can't keep them past 12. |
Do you mean 2017? Not sure it would be so impressive to have a single recent regional champ, but much more so than if we are talking 2007. |
Poster meant the 07s won the Region I Championship this year. 2019. |
| These clubs are businesses - the four listed above have revenues ranging from $2.6M to $6.2M. The results of their team have little to do with what's required to manage/run these businesses. |
| Holy carp. All my soccer teams when I was growing up in the Midwest were coached my volunteer parents!! I had no idea it was so common around here to pay coaches... |
| Non-profits are great for the execs making a lot of money without having to work too hard, nor satisfy shareholders. Great gig to have, especially in quasi-retirement. |
Apparently you say things like “holy carp” in the Midwest too. But seriously, there are paid coaches all over the country, including the Midwest. |
Your facts and reasoning are both defective. The u13s won state this year (obviously staying past 12) and the 07 reds who just won region I are back along with ex-DA players given the change at DCU. But I am pretty sure even if they leave for DA, that would not reflect poorly on clubs or coaches. Clubs are proud to send kids to really good DA programs. |
+1 My travel coach was a butcher and another one was a drywall guy. Approximately how much are parents paying per season? Do a large percentage go on to D1 or higher? This sounds crazy to me. |
As much as they want. You can always play rec if you want. How much do you spend at Starbucks? On pet food? On a car? Private schools? It is one of many ludicrous expenses that middle class people can opt to incur in the DC area. Then they can all go off and complain about their taxes. |
