Hell, I am old and I could even climb that wall. That is why we need additional funding. To replace and extend current barriers.
Now, the wall that Jim Acosta featured yesterday - no way could I climb that.
That is the type of barrier that is needed and for which funding is being sought.

There's this new fangled thing called a "ladder". It's amazing.

And, a ladder is hard to hide. Simply carrying a ladder slows the intruder down. Our border agents would have ample time to catch them.
In other words, they would see the intruders coming.
A tall wall like the one Jim Acosta featured combined with the technology that the Trump administration is seeking as part of its border barrier package would go a long way on preventing criminals, rapists, gang members, drug dealers, and others from illegally entering our country. This is not rocket science.

Did you see that tunnel CBP showed Trump?

How do you see a ladder though a concrete wall on the other side of the wall?

Well, we will come up with an engine shutdown devices, it will teach them real quick.

Hmm.... it's no longer a concrete wall.
But, if it were, there are drones, cameras, and other technology that can be used to detect people coming with ladders.

They are welcome to jump 20 feet down from the top of the wall onto the US soil. And to drop their kids.

Obviously there needs to be a multi-faceted approach. The status quo is very clearly not working. Just worth considering that there may be some merit to an expanded barrier.

Yes, there may be. But if Trump had commissioned study to develop a convincing multi-faceted approach, I think he'd have no problem getting the money. But he just wants a thing called a "wall" and he doesn't care how much it costs, what it looks like, how effective it is, or what other options there are. Because he doesn't care, he doesn't understand that other people do care. And he doesn't care that doing a study is normally how government and business works.

I can promise you he never built one hotel without someone doing a lot of legwork to identify opportunities and making a business case proving it would work. I don't know if he ever saw or cared about the business case, but somebody in Trump Org. was trying to keep his projects in the black.

There is another new invention called a "rope" that you can use you to climb done things. Hell, some genius even came up with "rope ladders" which are small, easily transportable devices that can be used to go up or down walls.

Well, a worked both the border and airport environments as a US Customs Agent and can tell u the traffickers and smugglers are light years ahead of us on technology, research and development and have unlimited funds. If they can dig sophisticated tunnel systems under the current walls that go undetected for years, you don’t think they will come up with new methods for smuggling when the new walls go up. They have access to machinery, explosives, drones, hot air balloons, submarines, planes and anything else you can think of. The wall is smoke and mirrors just like U.S airport security.

They can also detect people without ladders. If we can detect the people, we can catch them before they even get to the wall.

You know illegal immigration is down over the past decade. Why is that?

so what if it is down, they are still trying to come in.

Huh? We cut illegal immigration 80% but NOW it's a crisis so horrible that a wall, only a wall and nothing but a wall that will take years to complete can solve this "emergency." And because of that, we can't even pay the border guards.

Making it harder to enter the county illegally is a good thing. Why would anyone argue that it's a bad idea?

Yes, there need to be additional measures implemented - go after employers (big AND small) who hire illegal immigrants, go after those who are providing false documents, etc. But, a wall quite possibly could be a useful tool in stemming the tide of illegal immigrants coming into the US.

Agree.

Whether illegal immigration is up or down, really doesn’t matter. There should be zero illegal immigration. I am happy to advocate for better legal immigration policies. But I can muster zero support for encouraging illegal immigration.

People who are coming in are using A LEGAL FORM of immigration (check USA government site for asylum). So, no matter how many times your Fox GOD say, this is not illegal immigration.

You didn't see the border patrol agent speak yesterday, did you.
He said that in ONE DAY along an unsecured area of the border, they apprehended 450 people entering illegally. 135 of those people were from countries other than Mexico - including some in the Middle East.

This.

It's not just illegal immigrants from Mexico that are a problem. There are illegal immigrants here in the US from all over the world - China, India, the Middle East, Europe. It's a problem because we truly have NO idea who they are, where they live and what they are doing.

Arguing for illegal immigration to continue unchecked makes no sense to me. Why would you not want to improve the situation? It's not great for the illegal immigrants, either, who end up living in fear, and get taken advantage of by other people.

Have you ever used a rope or a rope ladder?
Both are very flimsy and require some training and good physical shape.
They are welcome to use anything you suggested they may use, the wall will reduce the border crossing significantly. I think only able bodies young males will be able to do get over the wall.
And by the time they will land on our side - some with broken legs, some with burned hands - our border patrol agents will be there to greet them to a medical assistance followed by a deportation process.
We need a wall, and we will get it.

And another new invention, called gloves.

Oh, so you mean we need more technology and hire more border patrol, like the Dems said they wanted for $25bil?
