Interesting perspective on the situation from people who are on the front lines.

And how about the other people who are on the front lines who disagree? I've read quite a few opinions from CBP and others for and against a wall.

Wow, $24.4 million a mile for Trump's wall? Someone is going to make a lot of money if this goes through.

Obviously there needs to be a multi-faceted approach. The status quo is very clearly not working. Just worth considering that there may be some merit to an expanded barrier.

You know illegal immigration is down over the past decade. Why is that?

Savings on border patrol resources will be extensive. NPR had story with border patrol that the investment was normal investment until Democrats made it political . On radio yesterday. Not sure if same story

There are currently whole lot of people making a whole lot of money off of illegal immigration. Mostly businesses who want to hire cheap labor and pay low wages instead of doing things legally.

Again, if Trump wants a wall, FINE. He can use the powers of government to try to get that. He's had multiple times to get this done when Republicans had full control but hey, why not try again?

But Democrats ARE NOT going to negotiate over this while he's holding 800,000 hostage.

I guess he can go full authoritarian on us and declare a national emergency.

so what if it is down, they are still trying to come in.

W/i 10 years quadcopters that can carry people will be everywhere. No need for a ladder, one aircraft can just go back and forth many times, too low for radar, can operate in remote locations, and will make the wall look silly.

Agree.

Whether illegal immigration is up or down, really doesn’t matter. There should be zero illegal immigration. I am happy to advocate for better legal immigration policies. But I can muster zero support for encouraging illegal immigration.

So then we deal with that challenge when it comes. Right now, the US government needs to do what is necessary to ameliorate the situation as it stands.

The people who say this never vote for legal immigration reform. Bush proposed it, and the Dems proposed it. Why haven't Republicans ever passed it?

People who are coming in are using A LEGAL FORM of immigration (check USA government site for asylum). So, no matter how many times your Fox GOD say, this is not illegal immigration.

Good for NPR for publishing this story.

The men and women who are working the borders are the experts here. They know what is needed to slow down and stop illegal immigration across the border.

Congress should listen to them. #BuildTheDamnWall
