What's your approximate number PP?
I have 2 kids at BDC and there's nothing to suggest to me that they won't clear the 5th grade wait list again this year. |
Our number is 59 now. |
You will get in. But you may not hear from them until late June/early July. |
Thanks for kind words! I heard Basis has orientation week before actually school starts? Do you know about it?
|
Sorry, I don't as my kids are older and it hasn't been in the weekly newsletter. I can tell you that the first day of school for all students is 8/20, and there has always been a back to school day/evening the week before classes start. It's a chance for you and your kid to go and pick up their schedules, find your locker and so forth. It is optional. There is a longer one-week optional (half days) study skills / orientation for new 5th graders. It's helpful, but not essential. Also it looks like they are following DCPS' calendar for the December, February and Spring breaks this year, which is a big change (we usually had 2 full weeks off in Dec/Jan). |
Thanks! Yes, I was asking about this 1 week orientation. When is it do you know? 2 weeks of Christmas holidays is so much better than DCPS option.. |
|
I don't know about the orientation date.
But I have a meeting at the school tomorrow and will try to remember to ask and post it here for you. Good luck. |

Lol maybe, but I do not understand why pp would l lie though.. Myschooldc. So I called MSDC and they said Basis offered so far only 15-16 spots for 5th grade waitlisters. I do not understand why people are saying that are getting offers for mid 20s and 30s.. The "lottery" Because it's an anonymous message board? Lol maybe. But I still do not get it, why some pp would lie or spread wrong information..[/quote] No, it's sibling preference. |

Any insight on 6th grade WL movement trends? Called registrar yesterday and, while nice, I didn’t feel any less confused :-/
Historical data says no seats offered for 6th for 2017/18. Is that because all 5th graders fully reenrolled? Over 100 called off for 5th last year but none for 6th. Thanks |
Not because everyone re-enrolled. I think (hunch from long-time BASIS parent) that they wanted to re-think how they integrate students at 6th academically, and they've instituted significant more social / emotional / team building in the lower middle schools grades. The next time to look for movement is after the end of year comprehensive exams (year-long test). They don't give them to 5th graders, but to all 6-8th graders and a number of students leave after the results come out (if you fail one or more you have to re-take at end of summer to be promoted to the next grade). |
thanks |
