I think (hunch from long-time BASIS parent) that they wanted to re-think how they integrate students at 6th academically, and they've instituted significant more social / emotional / team building in the lower middle schools grades. The next time to look for movement is after the end of year comprehensive exams (year-long test). They don't give them to 5th graders, but to all 6-8th graders and a number of students leave after the results come out (if you fail one or more you have to re-take at end of summer to be promoted to the next grade).
