PP - the registrar works part-time in summer, M-W only. So you won't see any additional movement until next week.

I don’t have inside info, but I do think it’s possibly that by count day Basis will clear their list again. It seems like they’ve been moving 5-10 names a week.

Basis has gone through its whole wait list in recent years. We got a call in late July last year. Waitlist # in the low hundreds.

We got off waitlist 2 weeks ago with #75!

Any recommendations from Basis families how to prepare for 5th grade at Basis? Any specific items to get e.g. organizers, school supplies etc.

Go to the Back to School night this Thursday. They will tell you what to get / provide a list then. They are particular re supplies (will include binders of specific sizes, varies by year/teachers most of which will remai. at school). Your child will need pencils, pens (red and black) and a pencil case. The zipper case-it binders work well for my kids to carry during the day / ring home.

Unless they’d changed vendors school lunch isn’t the best. My kids bring lunch but you can buy one day at a time without ordering in advance.

We haven’t received anything regarding Back to School night. What time does it start?

It is a drop-in event -- come anytime between 5 and 7 PM. You get lockers, schedules, etc -- takes about an hour.

If you can't make it, your child will get their schedule on the first day. All 5th graders meet up at the Navy Memorial on the first day to get sorted and then head to the building.

PP call the school and ask to speak to Mary Klein -- and ask to be added to Parent Square system (notification system). Supply lists are being posted there (we got the 8th grade one today).

My recommendations for new Basis families include serious effort toward structure in the home to accommodate/support the workload. A dedicated homework space, a dedicated time, frequent checking in by parents, providing tutors (via Basis peer tutors or external to school), enforcing healthy bedtimes (my senior Basis student mentioned how many classmates stay up very late or rise very early to complete work), figuring out coping mechanisms for when they will be overloaded and stressed, encouraging group study or gatherings. Practice those good habits (time allotted for workload, good self-care) now to arm yourselves for the many time you will certainly need them. And, be proud of the effort and growth each student will exhibit and best of luck to each family in supporting these kids! We adults know that growth is uncomfortable, challenging and a process. It is helpful to brace yourself to witness growth in your child.
