Moved to Florida for SO and now I'm miserable

There are things to like about DC & South Florida.

You need to engage the positives of where you are.

She knew she couldn't raise a family there, so she left.

Uhh, south Florida is one of the most reliably Democratic areas in the country, and is populated almost entirely by transplants from the Northeast or immigrants. But okay.

Seriously! South Florida conservative? Gun heavy? I just about spit out my drink.

I just about spit out my drink. Maybe PP’s sister was just scared of brown people or people who speak Spanish and that’s why she decided to leave. Easier to say “it’s the conservatives!!”

NP. Nope I'm not remotely scared of Black or brown people--I'm a moderate Democrat who is 100% anti-gun and pro-choice and I voted for Hilary. And southern Florida is horrible for anything except a vacation on the beach

-away from the guns
-away from the rednecks
-away from anti-abortion Catholic/Fundamentalist Christians
-away from someone who would shoot my teen sons for walking-while-Black
-away from the 'gators.

Well, it's not Texas but is absolutely gun-heavy compared to DC. They have the death penalty and that's a good indicator of a kill or be killed type atmosphere.

Rednecks in South Florida? LOLOL.

South Florida is heavily Jewish. And Catholic, but if you don't like Catholics the northeast won't work for you either. Guns? Again, it's an extremely liberal area filled with northeast transplants and immigrants.

And the Stand Your Ground law which got Trayvon Martin killed. People forget because of the beautiful beaches but Florida was just as much part of the Confederacy as Georgia and it shares a lot of its population with GA/AL too.

Many states have the death penalty, like California.

This is actually one of the dumbest statements I’ve read on DCUM lately. Congrats, PP.

You have to move, OP. I would have never agreed to go. DC is too warm for me in the summer, and the mosquitoes are a horror, so Florida... blaargh!

Gun ownership rates:
Well EVERYWHERE is gun heavy compared to DC. At 24.5%, Florida ranks 41st out of 51 states in gunownership- lower than Virginia at 35.1% and about equivalent to Maryland at 21.3%.

If you’re over 55 and want to live in a conservative area of FL with some semblance of seasons (we’ll, 3 not 4), try the Villages.

^^well the gun nuts have found the thread. Take cover! Their inadequacies, shortcomings, etc., require 30 round clips!

Florida has so many transplants from different states that it's hard to make a blanket statement. The SE coast from Palm Beach to Miami is loaded with people from NY and NJ. The west coast from Tampa to Naples is loaded with people from the mid west. What "type" would you prefer? Pretty easy answer. The people in the middle of the state are straight out of Deliverance. All pick up trucks with gun racks. Much of the panhandle is truly Deep South.
