How many left-lane slowpokes have been fined under new Va. law?

Just stay out of the left lane entirely and then you won't have to worry.

Duh. Did you read that I have to make a left exit onto the Toll Road?

What leads you to believe you are actually travelling 55 mph? your car's speedometer??

You do realize every car experiences "speedometer error," right? (check any road test in Car & Driver magazine; its right there in the specifications). And the error gets worse with tire wear/old age. You were probably crawling along at 50, thinking you were going 55mph - and simultaneously pissing off all those cars lined up behind you.

It isn't up to you to decide for others what speed you think they should drive. Stay out of the left lane!

Don't the cars those drivers are in experience "speedometer error" too?

Merge behind other cars, not in front of them.

I am 100% behind this rule but don't think people doing 20+ mph over the speed limit should treat it as an excuse to be an a$$hole about getting over

Uh...you're just as guilty as the one lingering in the left lane. Tickets for both of you!

It's pretty common that there is so much traffic that there is always going to be a car that you will have to merge in front of just to get over. How often is the beltway empty enough that you can merge to the left with no cars at all behind you?

If it’s too complicated for you then you should let someone else drive.

I don’t quite understand this other. “Speed of traffic” and “speed limit” are often in confliction. Which are we supposed to be observing again?

Keep right, Pass left. And worry about yourself.

I can't wait until the last minute to move into the left lane, since the left laners are the most aggressive and block up the spot, so I have to get in at least 3/4 mile ahead. I then have the left laners on my tail, even at 60, for the 40 seconds I'm in the lane.

Surely they won't ticket if there is a left exit up ahead, and "slower" drivers (meaning those who drive within 5 miles OVER the speed LIMIT) won't get tickets. In fact, I'd rather see them ticket the impatient left laners who tailgate because the want to go 70.

Put on your left turn signal so they know that you're exiting.

Yes, I definitely do that.

Right when you get in the left lane.

Yes, I do....I have my signal on as I move into the lane and then leave it on to let them know I will exit left. They still tail me. Annoying (and dangerous).

No, no. See, then they think that you just forgot to turn your signal off. You should put your signal on AFTER you get in the lane. Or, put signal on to change lanes. Turn signal off. Then turn signal back on when someone is right up behind you.

So what about HOV??

I am in it during rush hour (with required occupants) and f@ckers don’t move out of my way. The regular lanes are bumper to bumper and hov os moving with nobody in front of the car in front of me but they are exactly at the speed limit. Is HOV (far left) considered left lane under this? Please tell me “yes”.

If someone is exiting to merge and picking up speed to enter ethnicity the flow of traffic, you should absolutely be courteous and consider the risk of an accident as their lane ends and you don’t let them merge - or if they have to slow down, this slowing down everyone behind them and causing more traffic.

Keep the pace, merging on and off he beltway. And don’t cross solid lines.

Do any of you know what it means to be a defensive driver? Not an entitled driver (fast/aggressive or slow/passive). Defensive. Proactively making expert decisions on how to protect yourself and other drivers with the circumstances at hand. It shouldn’t take a huge tire in the middle of a highway to make people react defensively in the protection of all. Doing this in the day to day would change a lot of traffic patterns for the common good; keeping speed limits and the flow of traffic, merging safely, using signals, speeding up or slowing down to support the flow of traffic, focusing without distraction, etc...

No, it is not considered left lane. HOV cars do not have to move over so you can go 75 MPH.

I think it will even cut back on traffic jams! How many times have you been prevented from changing lanes because some dumbass is driving below the speed limit in the left lane? Happens to me st least once a week.

If you keep your speed at 60, tops, then you are a problem. I know it's within the law but have some common sense and go with the traffic flow. You're not being safe, you are the cause of many problems as people try to get around you.
