It's pretty common that there is so much traffic that there is always going to be a car that you will have to merge in front of just to get over. How often is the beltway empty enough that you can merge to the left with no cars at all behind you?

If someone is exiting to merge and picking up speed to enter ethnicity the flow of traffic, you should absolutely be courteous and consider the risk of an accident as their lane ends and you don’t let them merge - or if they have to slow down, this slowing down everyone behind them and causing more traffic.

Keep the pace, merging on and off he beltway. And don’t cross solid lines. [/quote]
