The scores for Howard that were already added were taken directly from a HCPS presentation to the Howard County School Board on October 17, 2017. Not adding the scores above. |

Top Ten 6 Md 3 va 1 DC Interesting! |
In part a function of the fact that neither MD nor DC has a magnet comparable in size and strength to TJ in VA. The schools at the bottom are all from MD and DC. |
The lowest performing FCPS school is Mount Vernon 1029 (FCPS) which is 40-th from the bottom of the list. |
|
Why is Banneker's scores so much lower than SWW? I thought that since they're both application schools in DC, they'd have similar scores.
I'm obviously a DC parent of a much younger child--basically, clueless.

Moco schools would be even higher with Blair / Rm magnets in one school like Tj
Or the thousands of kids in one of moco or upper NW dozen of the best privates in the region. |
|
Western MOCO is the gold vein with
Poolesville Churchill Whitman Bcc Landon Georgetown Prep Stone Ridge Holton |
Student demographics. SWW is far more affluent and white. Banneker is majority Blck and kids who qualify for FARMS. |
This isn’t really intelligible but a MoCo magnet like TJ would probably pull down scores at other MCPS schools. |
The Blair and RM magnets are the same as TJ and already drain the best schools like Tj does in fairfax. Moco also has an even bigger drain with the elite privates all over Moco and adjacent upper NW DC . |
| Plot them against FARMS rates and you will see a perfectly straight line. It's 100% a question of wealth. |
RM WJ QO St Andrews Bullis RE Smith Holy Child Washington Episcopal Holy Cross Are no slouches either Lower Schools Mater Dei Sidwell Friends Norwood Georgetown Day Sidwell St. John's St. Albans Cathedral Immediately adjacent just over the line. That is the area with the best of all educational worlds. Are no slouches either |
This helps explain DC and the SAT: https://www.collegeboard.org/program-results/2014/washington-d.c. The achievement gap is HUGE. |
| Interesting info! Thank you. |
