Region-Wide 2017 SAT Scores (DC/MD/VA) By School

So when you see these rankings of SAT scores by area high schools, ask yourself if they aren't just rankings of numbers of white and Asian kids vs brown kids.

When will area school districts post test score breakdowns. Fcps has not yet posted 2016-2017 sat scores on their profiles. The publication schedule states that they should’ve been posted in October. Anybody know?

The average SAT score for my kids' high school is worthless to me because they attend a magnet program within a high school. The SAT score I really would like to know is the average for kids in their program.

Colleges are going to judge my kid based on his score, not the average of the school that he is attending.

It's always good to know the schools with higher scores. These are the environments most conducive to learning at an appropriate pace.

This may be true if your child is in average classes. If your child is in IB, AP, or magnet classes, the performance of average kids at the school is irrelevant.

If the average is low, it's a good sign that your kid will be in the advanced classes with the same group of kids over and over again, which isn't ideal. Or, the classes may not be as challenging because the school probably will push some kids into those classes to justify offering them.

True. They will, however, absolutely compare your child's class rank and GPA and rigor of his classes against those of his classmates. And even if your school doesn't officially rank them, they know the schools well enough to get a sense of where they stack up.

Thanks for compiling!

Some of these schools are also partial Public Magnet so it would be helpful to look just at the average SAT scores for just the magnet students only.

For example, Montgomery Blair Magnet (Montgomery County Public Schools) numbers are attached in this website (1456 Average SA
T).

https://mbhs.edu/departments/magnet/ParentResources/MagnetProfile.pdf

Another example, Eleanor Roosevelt's (PGCPS) website references that the Science & Tech average SAT is 1301.

There may be others, but apples to apples need to be compared. Just my two cents.

That score is for all students in PGCPS Science and Tech program. There are three schools with a science and tech program. I believe Roosevelt is the hardest to get in to in terms of statistics -- simply more students apply there than elsewhere. As a result I think their SAT scores are probably a bit higher than that average of 1301.

It’s hard to say what’s apples-to-apples when some magnet programs are quite small and others are entire schools.

I would post both since there is a huge difference for both Blair & Eleanor Roosevelt for the average SAT vs. Magnet SAT score.

The SAT score for Blair magnet from the link you posted is 1526

Sorry about the incorrect number. I initially found a website where it listed 1456 as the average SAT number, but afterwards was able to find a link. Just forgot to correct the initial number.

lolz would have been better staying at base school if thats the goal

all you tiger moms on here are pathetic. I feel really bad for your kids. There is more to life than average SATs. When is the last time someone asked what your SATs were I mean seriously what a bunch of pathetic pearl clutching DCUM morons

This isn’t about your SATs. It’s about those of current students. And DC, PG, much of PW, and eastern MoCo can’t even hit the national average. Sad.

The MCPS schools that hit below national average are majority hispanic with a large esol population. I can't speak of the other schools in DC and in PG since I don't have the knowledge of the demographics of those schools, but I bet its the same thing. To the PP referencing this as sad, you really should do a little digging and get educated on the achievement gap. Snap out of your little bubble my friend!

Good bet. Only about 800 white students in DC attend public high schools, and they are not a majority population in any high school. ~40% at Latin and Walls, and ~30% at Wilson. This is something families like about these three schools.
